    cyclical dieting

Is there a reason people cycle thru bulking/cutting diets? Is it to just not get too fat/lose too much muscle by not focusing in one training and eating method for too long, or does the body respond better to it? thanks guys/girls

It's an old school style of dieting. Bulk/cut/bulk/cut etc. The idea is to bulk in the colder months when you'll be covered up with clothes anyway (therefore, excess bodyfat won't be too offensive), and cut in the warmer months when it's time to show off.

Some people respond well to it, others don't. Fireguy will tell you he spent YEARS in this 'trap', he'd gain a bunch of weight (mostly fat) bulking, then when he'd cut he'd be left with a whole pound of lean mass... hardly worth such effort. Some just do better lean bulking... slow and steady with an eye on bodyfat, but never letting it get anywhere near the point a traditional bulk would have it.

I think for most, it's about getting as much definition as possible and looking good at the beach. At least that's what it always was about for me.
