if it fits in your macros, yes. I doubt you are running a no fat diet. just take some of the fat grams out of other places in your diet and eat this if you're that concerned

Try and find 95% if you can, always cook mine about half way done till the pan is loaded with grease, strain it all, cook it again...then stick it on paper towel and get anymore grease off.

As stated earlier, if you can fit it into your macros, then absolutely. Personally, I wouldn't be able to fit 90/10 without having to modify other meals, so I opt for 95/5.
As far as how frequently to eat it - that's completely up to you, there are no rules. I eat beef (either 95/5 ground or top sirloin, sometimes both) at least once a day.

I don't understand why people buy lean mince beef, its pricey over here in the UK, for the same price I would much rather buy a tray of steak. It's a easy decision for me, steak or ground beef? Know which one im choosing Don't know if ground beef is cheap to buy over there in the states?

All this talk is making me hungry, not a good subject to talk about when your on a diet consuming only 1200cal lol

I wonder how much leaner it gets by draining fat and or putting it out on a towel, etc. It'd be nice to be able to buy 85% and drain it to come up with 90+. Any ideas?

I think you'd need to boil off the water and just weigh the fat/oil or something.

A 1994 University of Minnesota study found that draining cooked ground beef reduced fat content by 31 percent to 35 percent. The study further found that rinsing the meat with hot water reduced the fat content yet again by 25 percent to 30 percent.

I don't understand why it's more expensive, it's the same meat as steak, so dont see why it's more expensive. I prefer eating steak Tbh, in things like chilli, curry, stir fry or just plain, I love it any which way lol
They should start selling that French horse mince, id buy it

I'd buy horse too, if it was cost effective.

I got those nutrition stats off myfittnesspal, If you trim the fat off you will be cool, when I make chillie I like to just dice it up fine with a knife.
Tho I do like abit of ground beef now and again for making burgers, but I begrudge paying the prices they charge at Tesco.

i have not run the numbers myself, and i don't want to take the time to look up the article (which is from several years ago and therefore, numbers may not be the same) where i read it, BUT...
apparently the cost per gram of protein is lower if you buy "fattier" ground beef (say 70/30) and drain and rinse it before eating, versus buying the "leaner" ground beef (say 95-5). how much cheaper? i don't know. i suppose that would vary from place to place and from time to time.
and, how much "fussing" is required to save that money and is that worth it to you?
and, i would imagine it would make your calculations for macros less precise.
but it is CHEAPER.
just saying...

I drain it anyway but it does make sense that you really aren't saving a lot if you rinse/drain the fat from less lean meat. Damn this hobby is expensive!!
