    Fritz's accountability log

The beginning... much more to come. I am currently as of 4-2-13 5'11" 320lbs and between 40-50% BF (see pics). On August 1st of 2012 I suffered a severe motorcycle accident. My right leg was partially severed and my foot was de-gloved. I have undergone 4 major surgeries since, to try and save my leg, and tomorrow I go in for another surgery to swap out the titanium rod, and do a bone graft. Since the accident, I have been completely chair bound with a PICC line up until about a month and a half ago. I put on nearly 70lbs during this time... some from the inactivity/immobility, some from a side effect of a controversial nerve blocker (25-30lbs in about 3 weeks) which I took myself off of, and the rest just from piling junk into my face. I also found out about a month ago that I have severely low testosterone (other threads in another forum). So... today it starts. I am currently fasting for my surgery tomorrow, and am putting together a clean diet plan for after. Not surprisingly, my BW shows signs of slight insulin resistance, and my BP has gone up (not terribly, but still higher than normal). I am going to shoot for 2000-2300 calories per day, and to cut out simple sugars and processed foods. It's aggressive and will be hard, but I have 2 kids and a bum leg... I need to do this for many reasons, but the biggest reason is me, I'm sick of looking at myself like this. In the next couple days I'll be putting together a food plan with info from this forum and from other sites. Wish me luck people, cuz I'm gonna need it. As it stands now my protocol is as follows:

    Androgel 1.62@2 pumps per day
    vit D3 5000 units@1 in AM, 1 in PM
vit B12 5000 mcg sublingual in AM
DHEA 25mg micronized @ 1 in AM, 1 in PM
    pregnelenolone 50mg micronized @ 1 in AM
Omega 3 pills @ 1 in AM, 1 in PM
liquid Cia @ 5mg in AM, 5mg in PM

I'm sitting on HCG and MTII until after my surgery, but they will be added to my protocol. My diet goal is to focus on higher protein, and lower carbs, especially simple sugars.

So far today I'm still taking in liquids, and will for sure continue with these two and then add solids back in:
Protein powder=220cal, 50g prot, 3g carb, 1g fat... probably 2 servings a day, but I'll see where I'm at when I get my full diet planned out
Fiber powder=90cal, carb 24g... twice daily.

btw, I'm searching the forums, but if anyone could post a link to any threads that have nutritional values of different clean foods like chicken, venison, pork, beef, greens, grains etc I would appreciate it.

    Welcome aboard bud!

You just made the smartest and best decision of your life!

What kind of range of motion will you have after your surgery?

I would want to start you off on a 60pro/20carb/20fat macro split. You may want to start at 2500 cals and go from there after two weeks of eating on your numbers.

Did a MD prescribe you your hormone protocol? Just wondering why you don't have HCG in the mix to begin with.

    What are your limitations?

In the meantime, try and come up with a diet to meet the numbers I have posted above. I haven't done any math yet, but don't want to start you out at a severe caloric deficit when your body is trying to heal.

Good luck and it is up to you to do it, we are for ya!

My only limitations with my leg so far is strength and flexibility of my ankle from the immobilization. I'm getting stronger every day, but my ankle was bum before the accident, and now it's even worse. When I get out of this surgery and come home, I'll probably be laid up for at least a few days, but the surgeon seems to think I should be hobbling around again pretty quickly.

Yeah an MD did prescribe my Androgel , but as I'm sure you're aware, he was the kind of doc that just tested my T levels and nothing else, threw some androgel at me and pushed me out the door. I joined this site to research and since have had a complete BW done, and have decided to add HCG cuz my boys are already showing signs of atrophy. I'm taking ownership of my TRT, and my diet... there are no decent, knowledgeable TRT docs in my area so it falls on me.

thanks bro... I'm already past physical therapy. They can only take me so far, and I know more about strengthening excersises than she did, so we parted ways. I might go to a new therapist at the sports institute where I'm getting my surgery done tomorrow. Thanks for the advice. I'm picking through all the treads in here, for the next couple days I'll be stuck in a bed, so I might as well.

Sitting in my hospital bed in an extreme amount of pain, and all the info I had looked up to put a diet together is on my laptop at home. I guess it's no biggie at this point as I will be chair riding for at least a few days when I get out of here. I'm nervous for tomorrow, I'm in so much pain right now, and I still have a nerve block in!! Scary to think how bad it'll be when they pull the block tomorrow. At least I've been focussing on greens while I'm here... Nice spinach salads from the mess hall. Well, hope to check back in a day or so with a diet plan.

So, I'm at home, but still not really mobile. I'm unable to go shop, and my wife has enough on her plate taking care of me and our two kids, so having her do a special shopping trip to get what I need isn't in the cards right now. I do need some input though, and quickly. Today I hadn't eaten much, and about 3 pm I got real woozy, and got a cold sweat that stuck with me till I had my son run and get me an apple. Now, to put things in perspective, I did just have surgery, and have alot of meds running through me, so not eating is stupid on my part. I need help putting together some easy little meals I can whip up quick without a lot of standing. I have a big bin of oats, I have eggs, I have venison sticks(cut very lean but probably a boat load of sodium), I have some chicken breasts, and I might have some quick brown rice. I also have a small sampling of fruit like bannanas, pears, and apples, and a bin of Isopure protein powder. Those are about the healthiest non processed foods at my disposal right now. Any help for ideas would be great. I can't stand for a long time because my leg swells and then other bad things happen, but after my little spell I realize I need to be ingesting more good stuff at regular intervals. Please help

hope ya get well soon bud!

have you worked out your macros yet? you may want to up the protein some to aid in the healing process and drop some of the fruits and add in some fibrous veggies since you are not mobile.

also, check out and research a thread labeled 405 carb cycle, or something like that. it may be just what you need to get a jump start!

truthfully, this morning is the first healthy meal I've eaten in a very long time.

    1 scoop isopure
    1/2cup oats
    2 eggs
    water

it might be a placebo, but I'm an hour past my meal, and I haven't felt this good in a very long time. I'll keep posting throughout the day with my other meals that I figure out. One question, how do people feel about frozen veggies? And if I were to eat fruit, what would be the best fruit I could keep in my diet. The research continues, but this was a big step for me, it might seem stupid, but I have a horrible addiction to crap food.

since my surgery I've dropped 10lbs. Not much in my case, but a start. Still haven't had much time to research nutrition values of foods that I've been recommended to eat from this forum and put together macros and a menu. The last couple days I've had a couple small victories. I haven't ingested any simple sugars.
My breakfast has been: 1/2 cup oats, one scoop of Isopure, 2 eggs, and water.

second meal around 11 am has been: 1/2 large chicken breast skinless in olive oil and garlic, 1/2 cup brown rice, water.

Third meal the same and dinner the same with some broccoli, plus I had an apple for a snack around noon.

I haven't had time to do any research because my wife and I are fighting a flood right now (as is most of the town). I am ordering a food scale tonight, and hopefully by Friday will put more information together. Just cutting out the sugars and crap has made me feel better for certain. Still fighting. Really focusing on eating smaller and more frequently (common sense for health).

update today: I've been battling my issues with overeating. I'll be great for a day or two, but then gorge for a day. I'm getting better, but it's very difficult when I'm basically trapped in my house. I always feel great on the days when I'm dialed in. My diet has been definitely improving. Been focusing on a higher protein intake, while maintaining a safe level of "good" carbs. I have gone 2 weeks now with no junk food or candy, which is a BIG deal for me. I acquired a high end, very accurate shipping scale with memory functions, and to date have lost 9.6lbs. Small steps people. I'm almost done healing from my last surgery, so my mobility has improved, which obviously helps with the weight loss. My short term goal is to get under 300lbs by mid May.

Glad to see your still logging!

    Baby steps!

Just stick with it and you may want to look into carb cycling.

    Remember, it's not a sprint, it's a marathon

well, it has certainly been a long time since I logged anything. I can say that I did have some improvement. I ended up getting back to work on 5/13/13, and that helped a little, even though I was still quite limited on the mobility front. I stuck with my diet and ended up at 293lbs which felt great. Ended up having some complications with my heel that they had rebuilt, and left work on 6/16/13 to try and figure out a way to solve the issue. I maintained weight, and stuck with my diet, but on 7/19/13 I had a below knee amputation, as this was the only way to solve the issues I had since the accident. Since that time I've been chair bound (about 2 weeks now), and can almost guarantee that I've put on weight, although I have no way of knowing as my scale requires 2 feet lol. I've had a lot of family friends helping out with food as I can't get around very well, and unfortunately that means a lot of pasta and comfort foods, God bless them, but it's killing me. The up side is that today I get my bandages removed, and within 2 weeks I'll be fitted with my first prosthetic... then it's back to the races. I'm very excited to get back to life, and I am very much looking forward to my old stand by weight loss exercise... which is road marching with a ruck sack. It'll take a little while to get there, but my goal is to be walking 5 miles with 60lbs in my pack by February. Keep strong everyone, I know I will be.

12/30/13. weight 308#. I've been having issues with my prosthetic leg, which has yet again limited my mobility. basically unable to get out of the house. I will hopefully be getting that issue rectified within a month (new leg guy, new leg). I have finally gotten my strict diet back on track, so that's part of the battle. I'm still holding my goal of being able to ruck with 60# by feb. My body is ready to walk/work/workout, but with an ill fitting prosthetic it is a daunting task. oh well, keep on keepin on.

yeah, this is a very long battle for me, but I've got my head up, and know I'll get there. Thanks for the well wishes. Sick of being fat. A lot of people lose their legs because they were fat... I got fat because I lost my leg... frustrating as hell, but I'm starting to pick up a head of steam.

my diet fell to crap once I lost my leg, simply because I wasn't the one shopping or cooking. It's dialed back again.

    glad to hear that!

just keep some good records/logs so you can see a trend, and reassess every two-three weeks to fit your new needs for your changing body.

Since my last post, I have gone through 8 different legs, too many mechanical and skin issues to list, and have gone back to, and subsequently left, work 3 different times.

All that being said, I am more active than I have been in a very long time. I've been getting into adaptive sports (rock climbing, skiing, and attempts to snowboard, as well as crossfit.).

After the numerous attempts at a "fancy ass high tech" leg, my prosthetist told the company that sold us on this "great tech", to go have relations with themselves. He made me his leg. It's a work horse, has no eletrical components, no places to leak, is lighter, and has a redundant sealing system (which I designed, and he implemented). I'm going back to work on monday, and hopefully will be able to stay.

The crossfit is kicking my ass into shape. I've kicked the processed foods and simple sugars to the curb (of course I slip from time to time), and have gone on a (not over the top) restricted calorie diet, focusing on higher protein, and fruits/veggies.

I'm down to 290 lbs, but the scale doesn't tell the full story. I've put on a lot of muscle mass, and my pants are about 2 inches too big. My shoulders are wider again, my back is getting thick, and my legs are filling back out.

Every pound I lose makes my life as an amputee much easier. It's been a slow trek, but I continue to go in the right direction.
