Debate: Cooking vs. Drinking Egg Whites
(assume pasteurized egg whites)
I've read both sides of the debate. There are many that claim that cooking egg whites makes them more bioavailable, whereas drinking them some say the protein is only 50% bioavailable.
But then I've been reading too that there are many that get a majority of their protein from drinking raw egg whites, and if the protein were so locked up and unavailable, then how is it they are still making great gains?
Many that have experience with both modes say they see no difference.
Lately, I've been getting a significant portion of my protein from drinking liquid egg whites.
First, I'd like to say hitting my macros has been a lot easier since doing so. I have purchased a few pounds of egg white protein powder, and here lately, it just sits on the shelf.
Second, it doesn't fill me up as much as when cooked, and the processing time is obviously reduced.
So I think for me, this discussion is ripe. I'd like to hear anecdotal stories that involve drinking vs. cooking egg whites, and how your gains were impacted.
Finally, a few links to studies would be helpful.
Up for discussion............................

I'm curious about this myself.

I typically drink 2 boxes of liquid egg whites, each contains 16 fluid ounces and contains 50 grams of protein.
So I blend one 16 ounce box of egg whites and 1 can of chicken at 12.5 ounces per can and here is the resulting macros from such a mix
Now I do this twice a day. I may add other things, sometimes a half a cup of oats, other times maybe a few carrots or a tomato. start to finish, I'm done in under five minutes, including prep, consumption, and clean up.
Very low fat, and very high protein. I feel good after, and I don't feel full for too long.

I've looked into this back in 04 because for me it was easier to just crack the eggs and drip the whites into a cup and drink it than having to cook and eat it. No problem with the cooking but some days I'm just not in the mood to pound 6-10 eggs, and then its the fact that it gets old. With drinking them BOOM done in 2 seconds, quick and easy means to an end. BUT there were some studies floating around that proved some enzymes were available only when cooked and all that mambo jambo (I'm an engineer not a bio chemist) so I just started cooking them. I'll try to find some info on these studies, but it sure would be nice to just drink the stuff.

^I think if you take a multi with Biotin you are able to digest the raw egg white better

I have also been pondering this for a long time...and read the opinions both ways. So my current approach is to do both. Currently I put a whole raw egg in my evening shake, along with skim milk, 60 grams of pure casein powder, some psyllium husks and a banana or some vanilla essence and a bit of stevia.
But I also have cooked eggs when I can, sometimes poached, sometimes in an omelette. Sometimes I think when there is evidence pointing both ways it is best cover both bases and mix it up so I am not relying on one thing for my nutrition.

I say mix it up and cook sometimes and sometimes take them raw so you dont get bored one way or another. The debate has gone back and forth for a long time so I think both are safe and both probably closer to the same benefits than it's worth worrying about, unless you over cook them, burn them like me.

Does anyone have a preference for pasteurised or free range eggs? (Let's say you can get them for the same price).
