    Water intake in the winter

Anyone else finding it hard to drink water all day in the winter or cold weather?

In the summer i can get through 8 litres a day but im really struggling now that the weather is going cold, i also work outdoors so the last thing you want to do when cold and wet is drink cold water lol.

Anyone else find they have this problem?

I also work outside in the summer and can go through a whole lot of water. I don't work during the winter months and it's a struggle to get water down. I just force it down. It seems like the more cardio I do in the winter the more water I can chug down.

Its the whole temp thing for me, when its really cold and you cant feel your hands the last thing you want is to grab hold of a cold bottle of water lol

I guess its a case of man up and get colder or take a flask and drink hot water, cant imagine drinking hot water is fun but it will warm me up and get my water needs in

I'm the same way. When it's hot out, I can drink two gallons of water like its nothing and as it cools down it gets less. I don't know if it's a mental thing or your body telling you that you don't really need it because your not sweating as much as you would when it's hot out. I work outside too and some times I'm lucky to get a half of a gallon down while I'm at work. If i can keep it from freezing lol. If I'm moving around a lot and getting warm. I notice that I do drink more water though

I don't work outside and can't imagine wanting to drink cold water in cold weather. Did u consider drinking warm or hot water, if available? I think I could tolerate....

Yep. Personally, I'm a Hawaiian Punch man; but those little squeeze-bottles of zero-cal flavoring are worth every penny once you find a few that you like.

It has to due with your body's physiological response to cold. Majority of blood reverts inward towards the core region due to our programmed survival adaptations telling us to maintain thermogenic activity in our vital organs. This leads to a dysfunction in how our renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system maintains fluid homeostasis due to an irregularity with the secretion of a key regulator, our neuropeptide arginine-vasopressin. (antidiuretic properties.) Generally you actually are becoming dehydrated, but the brain isn't receiving the sufficient neurotransmission to validate increasing plasma concentration.

The reasoning behind this if I remember correctly... is when dehydration occurs our blood volume decreases along with an increase in sodium concentration. This is the two markers telling our hypothalamus to secrete the hormone. In the case of cold, our body can't correctly validate the blood volume and incorrectly believes the volume is correct. (vasoconstriction imitates a higher blood volume) The kidney's never get the signal to retain water and the brain never receives information to produce a thirst sensation.

I'd be cautious about drinking a lot of warm water because it's been advised before for relieving chronic constipation. I'm sure it's laxative properties are pretty miniscule. I'm sure the hot water claim with increased bowel movements was a pretty subjective statement as well.

This is very interesting. Esp the warm water for chronic constipation. Thx for posting
