New to this. Need a question answered.

Hey guys. Trying to get back into shape. I am 6'4" 371 with about 38% bmi. I have recently ( two weeks ago) decided it is time for a change. I set out a meal plan that I have not strayed from at all and am working out 6 times a week. My question is is it common for you to gain a pound or two before you start losing weight? Thanks in advance for the help.

    Ok-
6 am: shake which consists of one scoop whey isolate , tbs of natural peanut butter, half a banana, 8 oz almond milk

11 am: one chicken breast 1/2 can green beans

2:30 pm: two hard boiled eggs

5 pm: 6 oz filet or a chicken breast and a sweet potato

7:30 pm: another shake same as am

This has been the same thing for two weeks with the exception of on sat I will make 4 pieces of turkey bacon and 5 egg whites instead of the am shake.

Couldn't the "pound or two" simply be water or a normal fluctuation in body weight. Or the scale for that matter. I don't think I'd stress about it just now.

It could be. I guess I never thought of that. I appreciate it. I have noticed just after two weeks my shirts fit better.

You should read about and start tracking macros to learn about your body's calorie needs, if u haven't already.

U need to be aware of exactly how many cals ur consuming daily that way u can have predictable results.

So I have read about tdee and know that I need to consume about 2300 calories a day. I don't really know about macros.

Get a food scale and download a calorie counting app like "my fitness pal" ..

All food is made of 3 macronutrients components:
    Protein
    Carb
    Fat

Each of them has a calorie value per gram.

    1g protein 4cals
    1g carbs 4 cals
    1g fat 9 cals

Google understanding macronutrients for beginners and learn..

i think that is too low for you right now

if you are weighing in around 370, then eat around 3000. from what you posted above, that barely looks like anything for a big guy. i think you were/are under eating and the extra 'weight' could be from cortisol/stress, causing you to retain some water some.

another question, how do you like to eat, in regards to meals? do you like bigger meals, or smaller meals? there are many ways to skin a cat, just have to figure out which way works best for you!

405- thank you that actually explained a lot!

Raging Cajun- you think it's to low? Would more calories just make my metabolism go faster? I use to like large meals but two weeks into this I'm actually getting pretty use to these smaller meals. I don't feel stuffed. The only problem is later on be fore bed I am getting hungry again

i think you are not eating enough. i eat 2300 cals and i only weight if you are getting hungry before bed, look into eating some cottage cheese, it will help. i mix some with sugar free jam, tastes awesome! sometimes i will blend that and put in the freezer and call it my ice cream. in regards to meals, just keep doing what you are doing if it fits your schedule and liking. consistency is the magic to all of this!!!
