    Is this a bad idea?

I like working out fast in the AM to get it out of the way for the day. I wake up, take my peptides, have a black coffee, and about an hour later, I go to the gym. I'm not hungry and I have energy from the coffee. My workouts can be 1 to 1.5 hours long. I then take another peptide shot PWO and wait 30 mins before I have my first meal which is a PWO shake.

Is this a bad idea in regards to muscle retention during a cutting phase? Should I have a meal before I work out or will I be fine? I think I'll be fine, but I'd like to hear some different opinions and arguments.

I used to go to the gym at 6am on an empty stomach to do cardio on the treadmill, and I think a lot of people are in favour of fasted cardio.

When it comes to reistence training though (and heavy weightlifting in particular), I would at least have a small bowl of porridge (or 'oatmeal' as you say in America). I've never heard anyone promote the idea of doing weightlifting on an empty stomach.

I'd usually have a pop tart or something to get some carbs in me, but got rid of that in the last week.

I would never strength train on an empty stomach.

If I were training first thing in the morning I would have a protein shake with some carbs before working out.

Especially when cuttting you need to eat protein every 3-4 hours.

I wake up hungry. No clue how guys can skip eating. I'd do what DD said and have a protein drink at least and toss a banana in it as well.

Once I drink coffee I'm totally not hungry at all and I train just as insane with or without carbs, but may be too early to feel the deficit's affects. I can do a light meal of zero fat Greek yogurt and cereal pre workout.

For muuscle retention or growth you should always try to have a positive nitrogen balance in your bloodstream.

    (Nitrogen comes from protein.)

The skinny guy above who skips legs is known for keeping a protein drink next to his bed which he drinks during his sleep.

So breaking the fast is critical then in the morning in deficit. I'll do that greek yogurt/cereal about 1.5 hours pre workout. I'll wake up, take my GH peptides, wait 30 while I drink my coffee, then eat my PreWO meal, then hit gym. Should be fine.

Just ate my prework out meal after taking my peptides: 1/2 cup of Honey Nut Cheerios and a cup of fat-free Greek Yogurt. its about 20g protein and carbs each. It's a very light meal and will be easily digested so I'm won't be in the gym feeling bloated, and blood will easily flow to the muscle rather than the stomach.
