i think it varies from doc to doc... one may have their opinion of "low" and not give rx,, where another doc may go ahead and give you a script with same test results.

    from my experience.

research some of your local hrt clinics. Some of them use your bloodwork as only one indicator of many. Depression/libido and other issues are taken into account at some clinics.

Depends on the doc. Some may want your levels below the reference range, which means the bottom 2.5% of an already unhealthy population. Others go my symptoms. It's a crapshoot. It's best if you can find a doctor that comes recommended.

If your test levels are low, such as 300 or so, you will probably get a prescription for around 100mg test/wk. If they are a bit higher, say 600 you will probably only be given 50mg wk.
You may be able to get more from certain docs, but this is what I have seen prescribed. I do not think you will get more than this from a normal anti aging location.

your GP will refer you to and endocronologist....may even ask if you have a preference....your symptoms will have alot to do with his response to your blood test ##'s..... sleeplessness, low libido, apathy, fatigue, night sweats, ....my test was 143....script is 150 mg weekly....except i pulled a page out of Hale's book and do a Friday @80 and Monday night at 80.....i am 55...the last bump in my script was because the night sweats and sleeplessness arrived 36 hours before my next shot....he didn;t seem intersted at all about getting a new test level....

Mine also was in sub 200 area and my doctor has me use androderm patches. I know, how much everyone hates them, but they work for me. I can vary my test levels from the mid 300's to my high point of 1100. I use three patches a day at a delivery of 5mg's of test each patch, 15mg/s per day, and approximately 105 mgs per week. Now if i squeeze all the remaining testosterone gel from the patch after I take them off, that's how I was able to get my levels into the 1100's, but that sh!t is messy and smelly.
    Good luck,
    CR

I got a script for 200mg EW from an urologist, but I only use 160mg of it.

That is enough to put me at 1200-1600 ng/dl, with about 5% of that being Free-T, which is very high.

My doctor is fine with me being at this level, as even though it is at the very top of his range, it is still within the range.

The difference is that I see an UROLOGIST, and not an Endo.

There is a philosophy of medicine difference between the two types of doctors.

Endo prefer you be anywhere in the normal range of testosterone , even what is normal for an 80 year old, they see as normal for a 20 year old.

Urologist on the other hand, for the most part, prefer their patients to be in the upper 1/3rd of the range, for a 20 year old, because those high-normal levels are the least frequently associated with ED.

Hence why I recommend people see Urologist more instead of Endos.

thanks for the scoop....my bitch had been (with the endo) was maybe my system runs at a higher rate than the bottom end of the OK range....which is what led me to supplementing my own script....not by much but enough to feel like me again....

yeah dude, that sounds about right for an endo, anywhere in their range and they are happy, even the low end.

Uros seem to want the best erectile function you can have, and for that they want you in the upper 1/3rd.

I would try to get a refferal if I were you.

    meat....

thanks for the tip.....my wife and i have discussed this point....if test levels were kept normal for aging men (i am 55) then there would not be such a huge market for Viagra or Cialis.... they are pretty much in the same spot in the medicine cabinet since i bumped test dosage up...........will get referral...tahnks

I've been to a couple of urologists that just wanted to give me viagra. I was 35 and my total test was 265 and my free test was 9 (% was 3.4). I did my own TRT so to speak for a while. I'm 39 now and want to revisit the situation. i was thinking i need to go to an endo... but maybe not. I need a referal in the Rhode Island area if anyone has one.

Sorry to hear about the bad experience with those urologists.

Some of them are behind the times too.

ANyway, the best way to screen one, is to speak to the nurse first, give a call to the clinic etc.., then ask if the doctor has much experience with testosterone , as well as if they treat for blood levels, or symptoms etc...

If she says he treats for symptoms, not just blood levels, and uses testosterone frequently in his practice, then you have hit gold.

If she says he prefers viagra and its cousins, then do not bother making an appt.

When you have found a Uro, that meat the critera of using testosterone freqently in his practice, and treats for symptoms etc..., then ask your GP for a referal to this doctor.

Not ussually to difficult, as most GPs are more than happy to write referals.

If they try to prescribe Viagra, I tell them I tried Viagra before and it raised my blood pressure to high. Works!
