20 Years Old & Low Tesosterone -- Should I Get A Prescription for Test, HCG, or Not?
Hello guys,
Got my bloodwork back, and I already knew my testosterone was low, but it's taken a nosedive since I stopped working out a year ago.
I used to have total testosterone at 400 to 450 when I was trying to work out seriously 2 years ago...I'm trying to recover from chronic fatigue syndrome/Fibromyalgia/yeast infections, etc. so I have laid off the weights.
New tests are as follows:
My latest total Testosterone Blood test is at 328 ng/dl,
A saliva test I had done recently has me at 250 ng/dl,
HARRISON'S TEXT. OF INT. MED. REF. RANGE (Ages 18-65): 270-1070 ng/dL
Free Testosterone is at 9 pg/mL.
HARRISON'S REFERENCE RANGE: 12-40 pg/mL
I am so young. I can get a prescription for about 50mg/week of testosterone cypionate , or some androgel . I'm just afraid of shutting off my own testosterone production via the HPT axis. I've never run a cycle before, but I now have Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction / Adrenal Fatigue (Insufficiency), among other things. I am trying to take large doses of Growth Hormone to try and regenerate my body and my system...but should I take some testosterone? Will it help my body work properly? The main thing I think it would help me with is the weight loss I'm experiencing--I now barely weigh more than I did when I was 13 years old--I've lost close to 35 pounds...I also have what you might call ED--not seriously--I get hard, but I have trouble getting a full erection...
Is it worth taking some testosterone? Might it permanently affect my Hypothalamus? I feel more comfortable taking HGH since I feel it'll regenerate my body and fix the real causes of my problems. Should I take HCG maybe? I've heard HCG shouldn't be taken longer than 2 weeks at a time since that can downregulate LH and FSH receptors?
Any advice anyone?Last edited by barondumonde; 04-11-2008 at 01:38 PM.

I am not sure if 50mg/ week is enough to shut you down. Honestly I don't think so but I would be checking testicle size just to make sure.
HCG /HMG are now run several months in many hrt protocols. If I had that problem I would run hcg at a total weekly dosage of 2000iu and hmg at 75iu along with an AI or a SERM.
But check it with a doctor should be your 1st concern.

did u make 3 tests in a row (ever hour for 3 hours before 10 o clock)? thats wut is recommended to get a real number. if not, test again. one value means nothing. would t take the chance to go on hrt with 20. I d try everything else before...

Ya I know...I don't feel right going on HRT from the age of 20...something is not quite right here...
I don't want to have to pay for a doctor...I can see a relative for free, although he's not at all knowledgeable about endocrinology...one doctor I know recommended 50mg cypionate once a week.
as for whether or not i have other blood tests to back it up: yes I do
I have another half a dozen ones I had done earlier, with most of 'em showing my total test at around 400, but free testosterone at 9-12.
Lately, I haven't been exercising, so I know that has something to do with the fact that my test levels have dropped.

You are WAY too low for a 20yr old. You should see an Urologist ASAP. NOT an Endo.
Endos like to see you anywhere in their range, and they will tell you that 328 ng/dl is normal, on a scale of say 270-1500 ng/dl.
Urologists are the other way around. They like you to be in the top 1/3rd of the range, and will would want you to be 1200-1500 ng/dl on a 270-1500 ng/dl range.
They also like to see at least 3-5% of it being FreeT, which is good.
That is what I have found in my experience.

My percentage free is closer to something like 0.40%, according to a test I did a few months ago.
I don't know if I need to see a urologist. Like I said, I can get any prescription I want...I have doctors in the family...it's just that I'm not sure I should want to...I'm afraid of shutting off or damaging my HPT axis.
I mean--How can I need HRT at such a young age? I know I've gotten really sick...I have adrenal insufficiency and a host of other problems, but WTF is going on here?
Just for your reference: A test I did 2.5 years ago had my total Test at 460 and my free testosterone at over 100pg/mL. That's about 10 times the free levels I've been getting in the past year...the biggest differences between then and now are:
1. I have really bad yeast infection now, shows up in IgA, IgG, and IgM.
2. I have worse adrenal insufficiency.
3. I'm not working out the way I used to be--which was REALLY REALLY HARDCORE, and I have lost about 15 pounds since then.
