Can anyone offer some advice.
Sorry if this may sound redundant, however I am just getting ready to begin trt. About me...
39 years old.
Doctor has prescribed 75mg of test e twice weekly, along with hcg and clomid as I still wish to have kids. My estrogen was very low so doctor said an AI is not necessary until I get a blood test again after 45 days of therapy.
I will be self injecting, and frankly that scares the living shit out of me. I'm not trying to sound like a baby, but I'm worried that I'll f$@k it up.
Anyone that self injects can you help calm my nerves? Is it a "no big deal" thing or should I have some serious reservations about doing this myself.
Regardless, I am going to do this because I feel like crap and the benefits far out way any negatives. My scripts should arrive mid next week. I guess I just have some apprehension because I've never like needles in the first place, and now I'm going to be stick myself multiple times a week.
Any advice or words of incouragement would be greatly appreciated.
KS.

That's a normal fear, don't worry that you're the only guy out there with this problem.
First, have you had a nurse or someone already give you a shot, and have they reviewed it with you on how to properly inject yourself? You need the confidence to know that you're spot-on with where to put the needle and how to go about it from there. If they did brief you on this hopefully they covered how to aspirate properly as well.
Also, what gauge of needles are you using?
You might ask the doc if you can have a nurse help you with the first few to get you comfortable with pushing through. Once you do it a few times you'll be fine.Last edited by Vettester; 04-25-2010 at 03:12 PM.

I was the same way.. had a buddy come every week and do my pins... then had my mom who is an actual nurse pin me... she scared the living shit out of me.. lunged at me like nurses do with the needle... after that i've not had a problem doing pins..

Thanks everyone...
I meet with doc this week and we will go over injection sites, how to etc...
Its really the aspirating that concerns me primarily, with getting it in the right spot second. I do not know if I will be hitting the thigh or glutes yet.
As far as needle gauge I guess I will find that out also. Apparently two needles gauges are reccommended... one to draw from vial and one to inject.
also in some of the vidz Ive seen it takes a minute or so to push the test into the body. That gives me the hibby geebies. I also thought it would be a quick stick, squeeze, done... but apparently the oil takes a bit longer to push in.
Anyhow I'm a bitch what can I say. Nice to know there is a forum of folks like you to answer and advise those new to this.

23 and 25 guages should work if you pin gluts.. i just use 23's and it works great

I was using 25's and it took FOREVER to draw test .. 23's make life easy

I am pulling with 18g then switch to .5 inch 27g and pin in the thigh. No pain, no blood.

I was in your shoes. I have an absolutely man-card-revoking fear of needles. Can't watch them if I'm having blood drawn and I start to sweat at the mere thought of the needle going into my body.
At least, that's how it was when I started doing TRT a couple of months ago. I knew that injections were by far the better route of administration so I manned up when my doc asked me for my preference. I had them do the first two in the office and the nurse gave me some guidance. What I know now is the nurse actually SUCKED at doing IM injections. With a couple of months of twice weekly practice I'm confident I'm much better at it than she is. It's not very difficult and after a few injections you'll feel much more comfortable.
First, make sure you get them to write you a script for two different sized needles. 18 gauge to draw, and 23 or 25 gauge to inject. There are several good links on this site and elsewhere that give advice about how to proceed, but I always pin my quads. It's just easier for me to reach and I have more control over the needle. The first few times (including the ones at the docs office) I pinned the top outer portion of my quads. It wasn't bad, but then I found a site that had some more specific info about where to pin and it showed the outer part of the quad (that runs over the IT band) as the area with the least nerves and least blood vessels. I've been pinning there the last couple of weeks and find that causes less injection site soreness.
The best advice I read was from a member here who advised to inject slowly. The slower you go the less disruption to the muscle tissues surrounding the injection and this results in less soreness. Aspirating the needle is really no big deal but it must be done every time. I was concerned that it would cause some pain or discomfort, but that's just not the case. The risk of injecting into a vein is just not worth it to skip aspirating. Read a few stories of those who have and you'll understand why.
Best of luck.

Like Epic Ed... I was freaking out over the shot. The first time I as going to have my wife do it and she was scared and I was scared and we were like children just scared to do it. I liteally had the shakes..... we actually had a friend of hers who had some expierence with needles do it.
It was so painless in the glute with a 23 gague, that I had to ask if the needle was in... it is really that painless.
But I stressed over it big time just like you are doing.... and all the old timers on here kept telling me it was nothing.... I didn't believe them. So I have only been doing this for about 3 weeks now, so I am a newbie... so trust me it is nothing to worry about at all.
Take the good advice on here... draw with a 18 guage and stick with a 23 gauge. Oh and if you do the HCG with the small insulin needles, that really is freaking joke and doesn't hurt AT ALL.....
