Anyone have experience in using T3 for Hypothyroidism treatment?

Just curious if anyone has had any experience in using T3 in combination with or in addition to the standard T4 [Synthroid etc.] treatment. I've been on T4 for nearly 3 months and, per my doctors approval, stepped the dosage from a starting point of .75 to my current 1.75 and while i've had *some* improvements, there is still much that has not changed. I've been reading about the addition of T3 and it sounds like it makes a pretty significant difference, however I was hoping to hear from those who have had first hand experience.

I was on Synthroid for 10 years---and switched to Armour Thyroid this past year FINALLY----and feel 100% better--some people do not convert the T-4 into T-3 so I would check into something like Armour (or compounded T-3 and T-4) ---there is a ton of information out there about the huge difference--Armour is desiccated porcine thyroid ( from the pig which is closest to human thyroid) and Synthroid is synthetic---- my heart raced a lot on Synthroid too---

I agree. I would not take t3 only. Armour is a good option.

If you have high reverse T3 you need T3 to know it down. After a bit you would switch to armour.

My Dr started me out on armour which is T3 and T4. If i remember right T4 is the precurser to T3. in other words T4 tells you body to make more natural T3. As stated in another post, some people don't react to the T4 so they need straight T3. I think they have to do some tests to determine which you suffer from. Anyway, I wanted the straight T3 to drive my metabilsm. So I had her switch it to Cytomel (T3). She then added Synthroid (Levothyroxine T4) To me the straight T3 is way better than the armour alone. I don't know how much adding the Synthroid helped. I added did a T3 cycle in the past and it worked pretty good if you do not mind swetting for 24 hours a day.. Hope this helps..

    RNVOVR,

Are you taking the T3 strickley for weight loss or do you have any other Hypothyroid symptoms you're living with? And I'm not quite sure what you're implying, are you saying that on T3 only you are fine [if so, fine in what way] but on a combo of T3 plus Synthroid you sweat all the time? Which of your symptoms where you hoping to address with the Synthroid? Or I guess what I'm asking, is, in your case, what is the point of the T4?

I am a low-normal, which some Dr won't treat. However, my current Dr. diagnosed me with mild hypothyroidism (cold all the time, clammy hands, difficulty losing weight when I am on a strict diet etc). I've never solely been on just the T3. Sorry if my last post was confusing. I noticed a big improvement when she took me off the armour and put me on the Cytomel (T3) and the Synthroid (T4). I contribute that to the Cytomel and not the Synthroid, but that is just an assumption on my part.

I did a T3 cycle where you stair step up to high dose to put you in the upper range and then you step back down again to a normal dose. This is where the sweating came in. This part was strickily for weight loss and was in addition to my regular thyroid regimen. To be completely honest, I am not sure what the point of the synthroid is. My Dr never explained it and I never thought twice about it. Maybe it is to help push my natural levels up in double effort with the cytomel. Good question though.

Thanks for the reply. So how's the weight loss coming and how much are you trying to loose?

This was past tense as in about 3 years ago. However, I'm thinking about doing another this year.

    T4 is useless.

I would defenetly use T3 First.

Split it in 2 dosage per day (2 pills per day)

T3 Half life is short so it need to be taken 2 times per day.

I would never use Synthroid .

    Its either T3 or Armour.
