    Waiting *two* days between workouts

Noob sounding question: I've always heard it's important to allow your body 24 hours between workouts, however I find my workouts are more intense since I began TRT and it seems I now need more time to recuperate from the pain before I'm ready to hit the weights again. As a result, I typically wait two days between workouts which allows me to do more reps with more weight. I seem to be getting good gains and my strength is definitely up. Is there anything wrong with this logic or would I get better results just pounding the ibuprofen, sucking it up, and get back at it every other day?

P.S. Yes I'm aware it's common practice to split up your workout, i.e. upper one day and lower the next and hit the gym every day, but that's not what I'm asking.

If it works for you who cares what others are going to tell you. Thats what this is about, find what works and own it.

f&t - if your body is telling you to wait two days, then wait two days - it's as simple as that (although you don't want to be a pansy about it ). I think if you try to 'suck it up' and just keep pushing it, you run the risk of overtraining or overtaxing your body, which will limit your gains anyways.

My typical routing has been to do a chest/bicep workout on Monday (mid-day), then I coach hockey Monday night and also play Monday night. Tuesday comes and I'm totally beat and can't do much of anything. I know I 'could' train shoulders (for example) but I think it's just too much for this old fart, so I wait until Wednesday to again hit the gym and then also play hockey. I'm trying to find a good schedule that allows me to coach and play hockey, while also hitting the weights.

Anyhoo, as terraj says, find out what works for you and just do it! My 2 cents anyways...

Remember, muscle growth happens during the rest period, not the workout period. Rest and recooperation is key to muscle and strength increases.

Nothing wrong with it at all, Forrest. Like mentioned already, go the route that works best for your body. I take 2 days off after legs, and found I can start up real solid with my routine by taking that extra day.

subnet said it perfectly i dont think anyone will argue and frawnz put the period on it and then vette made a good example of a specific workout that needs 2 days for him similarly to you f&t...

for me my workouts arent really so heavy and taxing lately because i am on a calorie defecit and feel that i dont want/need to rest and kind of feel guilty when i do but do it anyway...4 days lifting 3 days off each week but i dont do legs all in one day because of what vette said...each day i lift i do 1 or 2 leg exercises instead of all in one day...my routine attemps more to keep the heart rate up with little rest in between sets from no rest up to a minute depending on how heavy/intense the set was..
