for those of you who were prescribed TRT at a young age
Care to share your experience?
Feel like you made the right decision?
Have any regrets?
Any initial hesitation?
How was your experience convincing your doc(s) that TRT was the best course of action?

I left it open ended so that I could also gauge what people think of as "young" for TRT without me asking it outright.

My dr recommended trt to me. I didn't ask for it. If you have to ask for it and talk your doc into it you probably don't need it.
I'm 24 btw

I started TRT in Jan at age 34.
So far it has been beneficial with minimal negatives.
Only significant negative for me is body acne. The shots are not pleasant but aren't that bad either.
I have only worked with TRT doctors, not a regular doc, so no problem "convincing" them.
Hope this helps, good luck

Hi funkymonk.
Im new to the forum, and thought this would be a nice place to start .
Im 23yo and living in australia. I have been prescribed hrt/trt by my doctor. Im using a product called "testogel" which is 50mg of test in a 5g of gel.
I feel like Ive made the right decision, and have only one regret...... Not getting my blood work done sooner.
I did not have to convince my doctor, as he was a specialist. My first doctor refused treatment even though I was under lab values.
Australian doctors, for the most part, think testosterone is an evil treatment and will be the end of the world. I love my country, but sometimes they can be so close minded!

I know, but its ridiculous. I can go buy a packet of ciggies and a bottle of rum, but I have to jump though hoops to get HCG and testogel lol.
This world is backwards!

Been on androgel for over 6 years
No regrets, taking it out of necessity due to hypopituitarism
No hesitation.
No convincing. My only problem is the T - levels that my doctor considers to be "good". I'm approximately 600-700, I would like more but I have no signs of needing an increase so my doctor can't justify increasing my levels. It seems they go off some type of sterotypical "average" T-levels which is bs imo.

late 20s but only been on for a few months now... it's not good yet, but the flipside was doing nothing and feeling like an old, lethargic man. I saw a doc without knowing I had low T, nor was I seeking T therapy.
Hopefully I can get my T levels into range sooner than later. Bloodwork coming soon since switching to androgel from testim.

28 been on for a year. Diagnosed two years ago. Symptoms as many as four years ago.
By far the best decision I made to get repla***ent therapy. FOr myself, my family, and everyone around me... Friend customers, etc. I regret not doing it sooner. And have never really wanted chirren/s so I'm indifferent about that aspect. Glad I came here and read before my first shot. Hcg and ai are a must in my opinion.

Is everybody on this website a body builder? I came to this forum because I wanted to see how other people my age (21) with low testosterone were fairing using TRT. I had a Traumatic Brain Injury back in 2008 from being outside a friends house at the wrong time when a gang chasing a neighbor decided to attack me and my friend instead. A large group of like 20 people came from behind me, hit me in the head with a tire iron and stomped on us for like 10 mins b4 the police got there. My skull of course was badly damaged along with part of my brain, but I was able to get up and go inside the house to get another friend to drive us to the hospital. I of course got through it ok but my life was changed in many ways, one of them possibly getting low T but hopefully not.
I've been addicted to opioids pretty much ever since. After a couple years of addiction I finally found a methadone clinic, and have been clean ever since, except for methadone everyday of course. Somewhere along the way I began having low T symptoms come on very slowly. I blamed them on methadone side effects until they got soo bad my life was miserable. I gained around 100 Ibs and started overheating no matter how cold it was. No doctors had any idea what was wrong with me until I saw my current one who knew right away that it was Low T. I thought I was too young but my doctor is a leading expert on opioids in CA and knew that all opioids with prolonged use slowly cut off your body's supply of androgen. I got tested and was in the 200-300 range I think. I was so happy just to know what was wrong and how to fix it.
You would think that this HUGE side effect from methadone treatment or any opioid in general would be told to you by your prescribing physician, or that they would at least know about it, but no. Methadone has changed my life for the better by far not counting the low T problem, so I started on Gel and stayed on Methadone. I plan on staying on these medications while I'm in school and then getting off.
I've been doing TRT for around 5 months now though and haven't gotten much better. It seems to most likely be because so far I wasn't using it at the same time, or putting it on as soon as I woke up. I would put it off because of how big of a hassle it is to rub all over your shoulders without touching anything and then washing up very thoroughly. I hate it, especially in the morning when I usually like to get up early and relax before I start my day. I'm trying to switch to the under arm kind, but my insurance isn't wanting to pay for it They always want a prior authorization that takes many weeks, because they don't think someone my age needs it. I found out today though that they cover patches. For some reason after complaining to my doctor, he never told me there was a easy transdermal patch system and still wont tell me anything about how to get the injections
So now I'm hoping other people on here my age (or was my age on TRT) can give me some advise on how the patches worked for them. I've read about the side effects and other stuff about the different methods but they don't make any sense, since if they are the same symptoms as having low T, how do you know if they are side effects or just the treatment not working? So far I've mainly just noticed slight skin irritation at my application sites, but I do have some of the side effects they list, only they are all things that I've gotten from either other problems or from before I was on TRT. They kinda freak me out but I was hoping most are only things that usually happen when your a lot older. Can anybody shed some light on these things for me?Last edited by silent545; 03-20-2013 at 10:14 PM. Reason: typo

It would probably work better for you to start a new thread for yourself and try to mostly ask any questions you might have in that thread.
Not all of the people in the TRT forum are body builders.
You need to search for yourself for all the info you want about injections ect.
Do you have any recent blood work showing your present test levels, they might not be high enough if you aren't applying it faithfully and if your symptoms haven't been relieved?

I'm 29, was feeling like hell for 4 plus years, finally got loo taken and doc found my test level at 50. Put me on Androgel and since I've foun a TRT doc and have a pretty good protocol. 200mg/ml test cyp a week (.5 twice a week) clomid, hcg 250iu EOD and anastrozole .5 twice a week.
Im on my 4th week and definitely feeling much better than last week. I'm taking clomid and hcg in hopes that my sperm count isn't going to be diminished. my wife and I are trying to have our 1st child.
My low t I'm sure was caused my aas (only ran 1 15 week cycle) but didnt use hcg and I think my pct was bunk from Mexico. also on Methadone 80mgs a day which I'm tapering off of 10 mgs every 2 weeks. been on the methadone for a year and 3 months and I hate it. I suffer from chronic pain due to a broken talus bone that now has screws and plates in my ankle. I was tired of running through oxycodone like candy so I switched to Methadone and its added weight, depression and killed my T levels as if they weren't already tanked.
So here I am!!! So far no regrets of my TRT choice, just pray that I get my wife knocked up!!!!!!!

dreadnot89, What form of Test are you taking, how long have you been taking it, and are you taking any estrogen blockers? An increase in Test should help with Sexual function. I know before I got on TRT i would experience difficulty in maintaining an erection. I am on 60mg 2X a week and .05mg of letro once a week, along with 200iu of hcg 2X a week. I havent has any issues with anything like this since my levels were brought to the upper ranges.
OP~~~Funkymonk
Im 29 now, been on trt for a little over a year but have been on the process for a little over 2 years. My doc tried several things before supplementing with Test, but in the end it was the only things to help with my symptoms. It has been the best thing i have done and if i would of got to a doctor earlier in life it might of changes my marriage/divorce. With how things worked out im really glad i did not because life is better now but I would suggest if you are having symptoms of low Test to get checked and start working on getting it straight. It has helped with my relationships, sexual drive (which before was non existent) and with my attitude. Also helped me gain weight and now have had nice gains in the gym. It sparked a whole change in lifestyle for me too. I now prep out my meals for the week and get in my macros needed to keep gaining good quality weight.
Overall was one of the best choices i made was to go to the doc and talk about my symptoms.

My protocol isn't dialed in yet, but I agree with most others here that it was a no brainer for me and that the only thing I would have changed would be to have done it sooner.

Thank You Trific, I appreciate your welcome and help.
I'm sorry about the long post if it went off topic, I just feel like I have to give background information or something to explain my story sometimes. I came to this forum to see what other people my age were experiencing with low T and TRT. I wanted to contribute my experience for others to learn, and hopefully hear from people in similar situations. I guess at the end I for some reason felt like I was supposed to actually have a question for people in the post. I don't know if I need to post anything somewhere else, I just want to hear from more people on this topic in general for now. Hopefully my added questions will allow someone like me to have a good reason to respond or something.
I asked about everyone being body builders just because most people I saw posting had pictures of themselves flexing or working out etc., and I wanted to make sure this forum is for people who have low T and not people just trying TRT to help with working out or something.
I was tested once in the beginning to diagnose me and I THINK my levels were in the 200's. I have had a form to get tested again to see how my medicine is working, but I got like 5 or 6 months ago and either kept forgetting about it or deciding to wait because I didn't want to get tested unless I had actually been taking my medicine consistently. I know my levels prob haven't been high enough because yes my symptoms - while definitely a little better - were still out of control, most likely because yes for long time I would forget to take it sometimes or put it off till later in the day. I have been better about making sure I put it on as early as I can, but I really just want to switch to Androderm patches, so that it's much easier and not such a hassle. I can't believe anybody uses the pain in the ass gels if there's patches you can use instead. I really wish someone would of told me sooner, but of course the doctors just try to push whatever brands are giving them a kickback
