Follow-up Blood Work (Test / Cholesterol)
I'm 32, 5'7" 150-155lbs
November 2010 - Quest lab
Test: 335 ng/dL
Free Test: 38.9 pg/mL
Free %: 1.16 L
Estradiol: 54 pg/mL
PSA: 0.5
IGF-1: 248
Cholesterol:
Total - 170
HDL - 49
Tri - 90
LDL - 103
March 2011 - Health Diagnostic Laboratory
Began taking 150mg Test C 1xweek, Red Yeast Rice, CoQ10
Test: 1868ng/dL
T3: 123ng/dL
T4: 1.08L
Estradiol: 64.7 pg/mL
PSA: 0.44
IGF-1: did not measure
Cholesterol:
Total - 161
HDL - 41
Tri - 183mg/dL
LDL - 98
Huge increase in Test w/ elevated Estrogen. Got script for Arimidex . Doc said I cold drop down to 125mg of Test C from 150mg. Is there such a thing as too high Test?
Total Cholesterol down, HDL and LDL dropped w/ big jump in Triglycerides. Test results were mailed, so haven't asked doc why the Tri's jumped so much. Any input?
The advanced cholestrol panel showed some risks w/ particle size. I had not added Niacin / Magnesium yet, so I'm going to try supplementing. I'm a 3/3 genotype so I will respond well to statins according to research. I cannot tweak my diet much as I'm a vegetarian and eat very lean already.

Hdl is too low. 60 or above is ideal and 35 is a danger zone.

I was not trying to fast either time. Probably had been 6 hours since eating for first test and maybe 2 hours for the second.

The optimal range guidelines on the paperwork I have says:
Total <200
LDL <100
Tris <150
HDL >40
The advanced Cholseterol panel was more concerning as 7 of 8 measurements were in the intermediate or high risk catagory. Docs' notes say the size of the cholesterol molecules are too small and thus can pass through the arterial wall easier to attach as plaque. She also commented to lower carbs / sugars, not how sure that was apparent from the results?
I'm going to try adding Niacin and Fish Oil to see what that does over the next 3 months.

Follow up - My health insurance does not cover my Test C script. Went and picked up the Arimidex and they do cover that. Amazing, they'll cover a script for a drug designed for women and not Test. WTF?!?

Carbs and sugars may be raising your triglyceride levels. Mine were pretty high when I was drinking a lot of beer (carbs). Doctor told me to lower the beer consumption. And yes, normally you fast for 12 hours before drawing blood when checking blood lipids. I'm not a doctor, but you may want to add tests for liver enzymes if you decide to add niacin to lower the LDL. Niacin can impact liver function.
