Increasing your HDL while on Trt

A problem that has come up is the lowering of my HDL cholesterol profile on my blood work. So I was put on Niacin 500 mg time released/ Red Rice Yeast supplement combination. I Take it before bedtime. My prior HDL was 39, after 2mths of taking the combo I was able to raise it to 49. The Prescription drug Niaspan that I'm sure you have seen those lame commercials for high cholesterol, is just time released niacin at 500mg and is expensive. Taking the combination of Niacin/Red Rice Yeast was my Dr. advice. Worked pretty well.

Thanks for the info, if your doing stanozolol it will mess up your lipid panel. Costco has the slo niacin for a good price, I also noticed the red yeast rice there I'll check it out. Did your personal dr recommend this or a clinic dr?

Statins can F with your liver, but they works great even in small doses (like 10mg Lipitor). I messed around with niacin and hated the weird hot flashes. Red Yeast rice is (so I've heard) similar to Lipitor in the way it works and how it hits your liver.

So my opinion is get some cardio, ask your doc about a statin. Generic statin is Simvistatin and is cheaper than Lipitor. As long as you're not taking huge risks with oral AAS, I think it should be fine with regular blood checks. Just my noob opinion.

My TRT Dr. recommended it. I was told to take it at night before bed to avoid the hot flashes. If u take niacin and eat on it, it seems to trigger them.

There have been a few studies released about the benefits of Niacin on HDL. I take a timed release Niacin supplement of 500mg 2 x per day...I never have hot flashes or any effects from it, but everyone is different.

Interesting. You take 1000mg/day. Have you seen good results at that dose?

Yes and I've actually moved up to 1,500mg per day for the past week to see what that does on my next blood test in a couple months. The 1,000mg per day dose upped my HDL count by about 10 and helped lower my BP a little bit.

Tried Niacin about 10 years back. Cholesterol was just over 200. I don't recall the dosage but it
was very high. Dropped it to 120! Then it triggered pain in the liver so discontinued. Take a mild statin 10mg.
