HRT and working out
Being that I just started my HRT I am of course wanting to make the most of it and try and get into the best shape that I can. I was looking at the workout that was recommended on the main site of steroid .com and it says it is an anabolic workout for those that are using anabolics. Is this a workout that I could do or is it for someone using much higher doses than an HRT dose?
When I was in my late teens/early 20's it seems like I did workouts more difficulut than this one. Also, working out each body part only 1/week as opposed to 2/week seems a bit week.
If this is not a good workout for me then could someone point me in the right direction? A book I have which is workouts for the time you have by men's health is what I have been using.

I only do 1 body part per week and it's been working fine for many years. Just like anything, people will give you a million different routines to follow, but in the end building strength & muscle is very individualized. You simply need to find what works for you through trial & error. One thing I've found is if you want to get strong, you need to lift heavy weight on a regular basis for every body part. I would also suggest a great book by Bill Pearls - "Getting Stronger". It can be had very cheaply on Amazon.com. As the NIKE commercial says; Just Do It...

Be careful with upping your weights too quickly. Yes you will feel stronger and think you can but careful. I honestly think I screwed my elbow up doing that. Going to get it x-rayed Monday.

My suggestion; get a trainer for a couple of months to start you on a basic routine. As you progress you won't need one anymore, they will make sure you don't get hurt in the early stages and within time you will custom your workout to your needs.
Just my $0.02!

Good advice all. Thanks. I'll get the book and look into a trainer. Also, that's a great point about doing too much. It never occurred to me that I may get gains at first faster than what I have been used to when I was younger and I can see how it would be easy to over do it.

I've lifted intermittently for the last 12 years. About every 6 months I workout for 6 weeks or so. So for "regular" workouts 9 years or so for weight lifting. I have been consistent with triathlon training though .As for strenghth in my army days when I was 21 I weighed 170 and benched about 205 with max of 225(very strict form) and squated about 245 max. Now I max about 185 on both. So pretty out of shape and much weaker compared to then.

I think that everyone on TRT should lift a few times per week. I know guys on TRT that do not lift and they also do not report the same benefits as those who do lift. It does boost your ego and sure as hell makes you feel better about yourself. When I finished my workout in the garage this morning I was doing a "most muscular" pose for the wife and she said "you are looking very strong". This boosted me in many ways!

Even off cycle, biceps recover in less then 48 hours. The slowest muscle to recover is the low back, and even that muscle group only takes about 100 hours to recover. And again, that is off cycle with good supportive nutrition. Twice a week on cycle is definitely not a problem.

It is an addiction . . . but this addiction will keep us happy and healthy in our old age, unlike being addicted to fast food, liquor, and women. Well, fast food and liquor anyway.

I wouldnt agree with biceps or any muscle recovering in 48 hours. I used to do biceps twice a week for years until BANG! Had a full distal bicep tear while on the preacher bench that had to be re-attached via surgery. Boy that sucked, but surgery went perfect. Obviously I went to one body part per week after that episode. Live & learn...

I experienced the same injury while attempting a foolish manuever at the playground with my kid. At that time I was working out once every 10 years. So have concluded that a recovery period that long is way too much! Of course, this was before I started HRT, so my recovery period was longer back then.

It takes time to find what works best for you...so the best thing is to pick a program and stick to it for 12 weeks, then try another for 12 and so on. Soon you'll find what works for you. Besides it's good to change up your workouts on a regular basis. My fav is chest/back mon., legs wed., arms/shoulders fri. Couple days of cardio/hiking/volleyball and some core work mixed in. Diet is key, especially for getting lean.

I've been on TRT for a little over 3 years and have worked out for 6 ...had a trainer first and did exactly what he said. He believed in EOD workouts 2parts a day...so some weeks you did 1workout twice that week.
First 3 years I did tone, but not much else. Lost some BF.
when I started the shots a buddy of mine who is a serious lifter gave me that 12 week MAX OT workout which hits a part daily..5 workouts a week. You log progress each day, and he had me send him my sheets every 3 or so weeks for check in. Juvenile I know but I put on about 15 lbs of mass in about 4 months. I'm 6 3 and have long limbs so my max is not so high...but it works.
All said bc every time I've pushed out of parameters of this program I hurt something. Recovery time important...TRT will make you feel like Hulk when you're in gym but you pay hell later if you don't gauge yourself.
Same experience with tennis....misery..and P90 X just as bad.
Gym is addictive. Figured that out at 39 years old!

Still try it and see If it works for you. First week hard. Gets better aft that.
I gained mass on it but did lose BF.
There are a lot of discussions out there about this. I did program with a group at lunch for the 12 weeks.
