DHEA, ZMA with TRT Questions
I started taking DHEA and ZMA in May. DHEA 200mg twice a day ZMA 450mg once a day.
I was diagnosed with low Testosterone at the end of June. My level is 170. No prior steroid use .
I got my first injection at the Dr's mid July 200mg 1 x a month.
I was taking the DHEA and ZMA before I got diagnosed, with no problems.
Is there any problems and/or side effects of taking DHEA and ZMA with the Testosterone ?
Thanks!!!

ZMA with T is a good idea, since the zinc may help reduce conversion of Test to E2.
200 mg of Test once a month seems like a rather insane script. I bet you start feeling bad again pretty soon, if you haven't already. Exactly what form of Test are you receiving?

As far as what type of Test I am ignorant, I don't know what type.
I get it at a local hospital, don't want to say what kind of hospital because I don't want to break forum rules. My Dr. prescribed it and I was given it by a Nurse.
It's my first dose, so I don't know how I should feel.
I do notice that my abdominal body fat seems to be going down, so that's a positive!

Yes, you will feel better for a week or two. But most common Test has a half life of around 8 days. So after 16 days only 1/4 of the 200 mg will be left in your system. In 30 days you will have about 1/16th. 1/4 is 50 mg. This is not enough to do you any real benefit, but enough to shutdown your own test production.
Most HRT is done with weekly injections. Some people divide the amount in half an inect 2x/week. The standard protocol of Test Cyp (a common Test injectable) is 100 - 200 mg / week, not month!
Did your doc give you an AI? Did he warn you about estrogen levels and symptoms to watch out for?
I understand your original question had nothing to do with any of this, but your original question shows you really need to do some serious reading and learn about HRT. Most docs will not take good care of you because they don't know what to do when it comes to HRT.

My Dr. did not mention anything regarding estrogen levels or what to look for. I've gotten some very good information from the posts on here! I have an appointment tomorrow I'll ask to get an appointment with a specialist, Endocronologist.
I appreciate all your valuable advice!! Thanks!

The amount of DHEA you are taking is way too much. Your dosage should be 25 mg twice a day; early am and mid afternoon. With the amount you're taking you could effect E2.

Yes I do, it's advisable for men on TRT protocols to take DHEA (read Crilser on DHEA and Adrenal fatigue) for a lot of reasons. DHEA is a hormone and is very potent; it has a super short half life so 25 mg twice a day is all you need to keep a consistent level.
Here's a decent read on DHEA: http://altmedicine.about.com/od/dhea/a/dhea.htm
Also, go to www.lef.org and search there on DHEA; some really interesting stuff.
Don't take it at night as it can act as a stimulant and you might not fall to sleep.
There are no "real" neg sides with DHEA in men (there can be for women if too much) only possible higher E2 considerations.

Thanks for the great info! I'll take 200mg of DHEA once a day until I use them up and then I'll switch to the lower dosage. Thanks!!

jwh, a few of the above guys here taught me a whole lot regarding proper trt protocols. Read, learn and live the above link. I repeat, read, learn and live the above link. BTW, don't just go to any doc/endo. I went through it recently too. Call and ask the staff if the doc will treat you via Crisler's protocols for trt treatment. Interrogate them. It works and will save you time, money and most importantly get you on the path to good health quicker. Good luck.

J - I am not totally sold on the "stimulant" thing to be honest. There's enough published to say that it can but I've been taking it before bed for years and it's never bothered me. DHEA rises during the day but the body needs it most at sleep...weird right?
Men on TRT should take it; LEF is a great source for what it can do for you and it's backed by published research...in other words, no bullshit.
I swear by it TRT or not. Also, take 50 mg of melatonin as well before bed. Do your research on this hormone and you'll take it for the rest of your life.
Glade to hear you're feeling well J, it's not an uncommen report when men start on it!
Also, to the OP, cut your pills in half, 200 mg per day is too much!
T for life

Just curious, if DHEA has little to no side effects and the positive side of taking DHEA is that it helps enhance Testosterone .
Why not take higher doses?
Thanks!!

The old "if a little is good then a lot must be really good" logic. It doesn't work that way, especially with hormones. When hormones are low another set of hormones kick in to make raise those hormones. When a set of hormones are too high, then your body does other things to turn off those hormones. And of course, levels that are too high have drawbacks, create unwanted sides, etc.
The trick to HRT is finding the sweet spot for your body. Go above it and you pay a price!
