women and hrt
I was having a discussion with my gf about me starting trt. She said that before we were dating she went to a local bio-identical clinic and was diagnosed with low t. They wanted to put her on the pellet, once a month. I know that women need some test, but I found it interesting. Wondering your thoughts?

hell ya - but most of them don't have the desire to fix what is wrong - if you have one that is - that is a great thing! I always wished mine would have jumped on board after I did - things would be a lot better now.....

My wife is on BHRT. Included in her regiment is a very small amount of Test Cyp, .07-.08mg/wk, using 1/2cc insulin pins Sub Q. I believe last year at this time, her total serum score was 13. It is now in the 40 to 50 range.
Compounded DHEA cream has also been a huge benefit for her. This hormone really needs to be looked at for all females, especially if premenopausal symptoms are occuring. My wife's score was 70 on a range of 60-337. Her score is now closer to 250, and it has made a huge difference in her well being, and her PMS symptoms are virtually zilch! A little pregneolone can be combined in the mix, and it will do wonders.
It's good to get with a doctor who understands BHRT specifically for women. It's important that labs are taken at various stages of the month for women (Follicular, Ovulation, Luteal), so that the diagnosis is accurate. It's definitely a little more complex getting a female's protocol dialed in, so get with a doctor who has some good experience.

Thank you for this info. My wife is having hormonal problems. She is a disaster without a birth control regimen, but the BC gives her a completely different set of problems. She needs real hormone level control. I am going to do more research on this. She is afraid to talk to the doctor because she knows the TRT business can be shady and she is worried she will be given an earful of rubbish.

no prob bro - couple of really good sources of info here - I am sure they will chime in when you or your wife have a more specific question - Like I said - if your gf is open to at least getting her levels looked at, you are close to winning the game already.

I hear ya Johnny, it can be real tough when these stages of life start kicking in. The affects of menopause can be a long, drawn out process that can go for years. Truthfully, most of us hear can relate to this, as we've had our own battles by dealing with andropause , the equivalent counterpart. However, with females, it's got to be a tough roller coaster ride when their bodies are going through the various phases of their cycles, each and every month.
My wife is now 41, and she has successfully been off of BC for a full year now. There are some good books on the market, including a few from Suzanne Somers, that could instrumental with educating your wife on the facts of this stuff. I know there are some videos on YouTube with Suzanne, which would also be informative for her. Just like with us, there are a lot of methods of treatments, including some easy compounded cream therapies that are simple to work with. Just explain to her that BHRT is more mainstream than she thinks, and a little research will definitely enlighten her. My wife, "Bengal Woman", who is a member here, would gladly answer any questions she might have on the effectiveness of BHRT, and the protocols associated with it. I'm also going to try and find a thread that we had going here about a year ago, related to BHRT for women. There's a good chance her primary doctor won't be very helpful, but let her know that's really no different than us guys. Usually, it will take a good clinic and/or AA specialist to diagnose and treat this properly.

^^^^ Great info in that thread. I forwarded it to my wife.
We are ready to send my wife to my AA doctor when her schedule calms down (working and getting her MBA, she kicks *ss). I trust my doc with my treatment, but it seems so simple compared to women. Hopefully he does a good job...we only partially trust him, but would be the way with a new doc too. Go with what ya know I suppose.
Funny story: my first wife was much older than me and I went through years of early stages of menopause. Going on BC at least returned her to sanity. My second wife is much younger than me and is dealing with these issues in her early thirties (all her life really). There is a 28 year age difference between my two wives, but apparently I can sense when a woman is hormonally out of whack (regardless of age) and I cannot resist them.

My practice is about 50/50 male female, it is just as important but the above posts are correct, men are easy, increase testosterone , control the metabolites, change lives, women on the other hand, you have to get 3 hormones optimal, then balance them, not so easy. It is truly an art that takes time to develop. They also tend to have more thyroid and cortisol issues, throw in elevated body fat and insulin resistence and you have a project on your hands. Lifestyle is half the battle, no hormone in the world fixes a sedentary lifestyle and poor diet. Sometimes it takes me 6 - 12 months to find the right combination for a female patient, then their hormones change and I have to start over. Most physicians never discuss testosterone with females but it is just as important to them as it is to male patients. One of the most gratifying aspects of my practice is treating a couple at the same time, it literally transforms marriages, nothing like improving intimacy and increasing libido after 10 - 20 years of marriage.
