MPB and Test
Does anyone know how Male Pattern Baldness work's? Some sources say taking Testosterone could make you lose your hair but I didn't start thinning until age 26 or so when my hormones started to down regulate. Does the Test then just convert to more DHT which block's the hair growth?
And if you replace test back to higher level's would this increase MPB or keep it the same?

yes this is one of the unwanted sides you get from testosterone . not sure how other hormones effect boldness, but i know DHT has allot to do with it. it starts thinning overall, then lose it at the back center kind of like how monks cut their hair, and at the same time the hair in front your starts receiding.... after that its time to hit the raiser! LO! i started losing hair at 24

Genetics has a little bit to do with it. Bass is on it. Test converts to DHT in the prostate. It may cause swelling and other unwanted side effects. Take proscar which helps block that conversion [5ar enzyme?] and it spares your follicles. Nizol shampoo 2% is excellent if you are worried about the wig.

These guys pretty much sum it up correctly. Test converts to DHT through 5aR (5alpha reductase enzyme) in the prostate and other places as well. Need to keep a check on levels and it can be managed like anything else.
Don't want to go to low on DHT. Rule of thumb: Lower DHT levels more femenization.

There must be some sort of mechanism that tells your body to start converting test to more DHT. Like a switch. Because otherwise you would start losing hair at peak testosterone level's 18-21. But instead it didn't happen to me until I was 26 and Bass 24.

The endocrine system is one of checks and balances. On average, a healthy male will convert about 5% of thier Testosterone via the 5 alpha reductase (5-RA) enzyme into DHT.
Like all things, some men over produce and others under produce.
With the right Physician both can be managed to the ideal level.
DHT is not our enemy...we need it and in the right range.
