    Prostate

Hey guys, anyone notice an increase in PSA value after starting TRT?? If so, temporary or did it stay elevated/ Also, general feelings on Saw Palmetto?? Does this help prostate health, or just BS Marketing. thanks,

A slight increase in PSA is totally normal when starting a TRT protocol so no worries. By "slight" I mean a uptick from like .66 to .81 ng/ml.

If, however, you jumped from .66 to 2.1 ng/ml that's way to high and suggests further investigation and diagnosis of the Prostate gland.

Be careful about adding herbs to your TRT protocol unless you know exactly why you are adding them in and for what purpose. Herbs can have a negative effect on your outcome...some act just like a drug and many are contraindicated for many prescribed drugs.

    Word to the wise!

Thanks GD, for sake of elaborating a bit, my PSA was 1.7 pre TRT, went on for 5 months it shot up to 2.4, needless to say freaked me out and I discontinued TRT. Went to a urologist, came clean and he told me it was prob inflammed fueled by the T. DRE was normal, he said come back in a few months for new PSA test. PSA came back at 1.35 when I went back a couple months later. Ok was happy with that, told me I could restart TRT which I did. My last PSA, 10 weeks into restart was now 1.9??? I'm certainly no Dr but seems to be OK?? at least potentially inflamation or mild BPH. Anyhow, didnt know if Saw Palmetto would be wise based on these readings or if it was just a waste??

I would say that "inflamed" isn't much to worry about. What we are worried about is cancer and while elevated PSA values may indicate cancer they also may not.

Did your urologist actually check your prostate?

Are you also aware you need to avoid ejaculation for 48 hours or more prior to testing otherwise it can/will raise your test level.

The FDA just approved 5 mg daily of Tadalafil (Cialis) for inflamed prostate and BPH. This little daily use pde5i has so many health benefits for men it's not even funny!

I am on it and just got off the phone with my Doc (who is also on it) who thinks all men over 40 should be on it like a daily vitamin.

I'd go this route before Saw Palmetto.

Plus, if you lift you're going to see much greater pumps and increase in vascularity...and of course much better erection quality

Fred, prostate was checked DRE said it felt fine, was checked by 2nd urologist when I got the other PSA he said it certainly felt ok. My fear is my father had prostate cancer age 65, everything I heard/read indicates that T DOES NOT cause P cancer it just "feeds" it if you have it. Hopefully thats true? Also, K, I did NOT know about the ejac 48 hrs prior, not sure if my spouse and I were intimate or not, hopefully and possible yes which hopefully bumped that number a litle higher up. I refrained prior to the next test which came back 1.35, Just dont like the fact that 10 wks on again, its back at 1.9.

Saw palmetto works exactly the same as proscar for me. It keeps the hair and if I take too much it makes me tired and lethargic.

don't mean to hijack thread, but gd, do you suffer any nasal issues/inflammation as a side-effect from this. That is what gets me, otherwise if you don't suffer from sides it is effective in more ways than one.

Saw Palmetto worked great for me, then I switched to daily cialis and it too works well for the prostate inflamation but as GD mentioned there is so much more to it than that, lots of benefits.

I did with Viagra (sildenafil citrate) because they require "on demand" use and have a larger amount of the active ingredient. With every day Cialis (Tadalafil) it's a small 5 mg does so you don't get that huge immediate hemovascular effect...it's very mild.

Both of these pde5i's work the same but differently.

Tadalafil has a 17 hour half life so it's working for at least 36 hours!

Sildenafil Citrate has a 4 hour half life so in 8 hours it's pretty much metabolized out.

And since I've been taking it for a year or so now everyday I can take 20 mg with no neg sides whatsoever as my body is used to it...sort of like titrating I guess.

Take a 20 mg of Tadalafil on a Friday night before bed and you're good for the entire weekend...great erections and instant I may add

That little 5 mg I take every day has brought back decent morning erections as well.

Thanks for info gd. I just had a balloon sinuplasty so when that heals perhaps I will give the 5mg dose a try again. I react less hemovascularly to Sildenafil but like the idea of the low mg daily dose for the other benefits as well. Perhaps it will be a matter of staying on it for a few days to see if the symptoms disappear.

new data is suggesting PSA screens are not the "wonder test" it was originally proclaimed to be. Instead of PSA then to biopsy, it should go PSA, then DRE, then biopsy only if the DRE result would normally be a cause of alarm.

and to make the DRE more palitable, I'm suggesting only cute female nurses do the exam, and the actual exam should take no longer than 15 minutes? =)
