    iron level

    i gave blood today , the doc said my iron level was 18.6, what are the limits....thanks

    Not exactly sure, but thought it was something like 17.8 as a normal limit. Something close to that anyway. Good thing you gave blood. Try to do that more often until you are in the middle of the normal range. After I gave consecutively about 3 or 4 times every 8 weeks, my number was in the 14's.

    18.6 is high for hemo. Which is essentially what they check when you donate blood. 19 is the upper limit they will be able to read I believe, 20 and above they can't get a reading.

    If you are donating to lower rbc, hemo, hemato, that is a very good idea. I go every 56 days. Last heavy test/deca cycle, mine was 19/56. Donated blood and slowly got it down.

    Exactly what is said above. They check the hematocrit value, more so to make sure that a donor isn't anemic. Usually you must be above 12.5 or 38% to qualify.
