Vitamin D Lab
In addition to my labs that I posted over the weekend, I just got another lab result.
Vitamin D 25 Hydroxy: 28 (30 - 100)
Hmmm ... Got to say that I was a little surprised with the result. I know that there's vitamin D in my daily vitamin mix (liquid), but it looks like I need to ramp it up in other areas like tanning or something else.
I'm curious if any of you have experienced this, and the things you did to optimize it? Damn, my BW was looking good too ...

I recently had my D checked as well and it was dismal.
I looked at the Rx D. It appears that's it's usually the D2 form taken once a week. However, that form needs to be converted to D3, which is readily available at Walmart. So, I am dosing it very high and getting my numbers rechecked. The stuff from walmart is cheaper than a 10 dollar copay so why not try it I say.
Also, vitamin D deficiency seems to be rampant. I believe vit D defiency can lead to low T as well... go figure.

Easy and cheap to bring up - just takes a while to raise to level after you raise your dose - Very important and very common for men to be deficient. Should be included in every panel. Get after it vette.

i was getting 1 hour California sun almost everyday and was on VD3 at 5000 iu per day, and when did blood work i was still at the bottom. now i am taking 10,000 iu ed and will re-test soon to see where i am at. it seems that some of us don't metabolize oral D3 well. just up your dose for a while then re-test!

I take 4000 IU included in fish gels and barely make the good range. I think orally you need at least 5000 IU to be sure, but could be the source/purity might be an issue also.

This is definitely an interesting topic, especially for how many have been tested to be low.
What's the range where we want to be? I read a lot of stuff, but none of it was weighty, peer reviewed caliber stuff. The take away I got was that we need D3 and want our range around 50-80 on the 30-100 scale/range.

I would comment, however, that too much is not necessarily good with the real potential for kidney toxicology and kidney stone formation from the excess calcium produced.
As I recall, the more modern studies say up to 10,000 IU/day are OK, but for those who spend alot of time outside, less than this would be best.

I too just got on TRT and was Dx'ed with low D. I am taking a citracal knock off from Sams club. Doc ordered 2000units of D, so I take 2x AM, 2x PM....
How many of us here work nights? I am a vampire, working 12s at the hospital. I have read some interesting things about night shift workers, low VitD, low test, , increased cortisol, etc.

I wouldn't doubt that for a second. The nature of our society largely keeps us inside in general. A nightshift would only exacerbate this. I'd like to see the numbers we all come back with regarding our D.
It seems like over half this thread was recently diagnosed with low D! Kinda funny in a way. I will definitely post my update in a new thread here and maybe others can do so as well. I am taking 5000 IU pills from walmart and trying to get in 4 a day.

In the winter months was not getting Any sun or tanning. I was taking 5,000 IU of D3 about 5 days a week plus the 400iu from my multi vit. When I got my blood results back I was shocked to see that I was only at 22!Also I was using name brand vitamins nothing that was cheap. It really makes me wonder what level I would have been at if not taking the 5,000+.....

Thanks, guys. I'll jump it up to 5,000iu/day for a bit and see how that goes.
