Heart palpitations last nite: Bye bye armour thyroid

well as yall know im now taking or probably was taking armour thyroid as recommended by my doc to get my free t3 levels "optimal".. theyre not low mind u just not optimal.. well last nite i fell asleep on the couch , as i usually do, and woke up and went downstairs to go back to sleep.. as i was laying there i noticed i sort of woke up and started feeling an unusual sensation in my chest.. within 2 minutes my heart was beating fairly rapidly and hard.. immediately my mind went strait to the armour thyroid that i debated on even trying and finally decided to give a shot..after i got over the initial anxiety i went and chekd my blood pressure.. it was 147/74 pulse 84(which i know the pulse isnt high but its usually 58 when im at rest and it had slowed down alot by then).. BP is usually like 125/68.. i did manage to get settled back down and fell asleep about 1.5 hrs later..

i dont know about yall but to me having a less than optimal thyroid is way less of a deal to me than waking up with uncontrollable rapid heartbeats.. i think i remember reading somewhere that others experienced this phenomenon due to TRT but im convinced this episode was the thyroid meds..this was listed as one of the potential sides of the medication which led to my skepticism about even trying it... needless to say i have discontinued use of the armour thyroid.. curious as to yalls opinion..id also like to say ive only been taking it as prescribed for a week..

    thx

I take armour thyroid and don't have any issues with it. I have been on it about 6 months replaced synthriod with armour as it is to be a more identical product.
Speak with the Dr. and get his opinion, before you continue using the med.

Did you titrate up slowly? Starting at one grain right off the bat can throw too much T3 into your system if it is not used to it. The heart palps you describe are exactly what happens in that case.

Maybe pull right back, start at 1/4 of a grain and ramp up another 1/4 every week or so. You may find you only end up needing half a grain (30 mg) at max.

If you cannot handle the med even at lower doses, this is probably the indication that your cortisol is not sufficient. But adding that in could be a kettle of worms so I would just try less armour and ramp up both slow and steady.

no i started rite off the bat at 1grain/day.. figd the doc would have told me to progress slowly? either way i think im gonna say screw these thyroid meds.. im not fat and losing fat successfully and sleep fine and feel pretty good all day .. esp after startn trt.. im sure once i get E2 under control ill feel better..

i figd if i took them they might assist in my fatloss and help me keep it off easier.. but if i have to deal with what i had to deal with last nite to achieve that ill just work harder
