Vitamin D and Testosterone Levels
I recently read an article which suggests that most Western Men make too little testosterone due to Vitamin D deficiency. The science is that vitamin D regulates the genes that are responsible for the production of testosterone in the Leydig cells. It also lowers SHBG, which is a factor in free testosterone levels .
Keep in mind that the Austrian study included 2300 men over the age of 60, so the effects on younger men may vary. You can read more here.
I believe Effect of vitamin D supplementation on testosterone levels in men. is the MEDLINE abstract for that study.Last edited by DaRoq; 03-03-2012 at 10:20 AM.

Nice article - we have been saying here for years that most men are deficient these days in Vit D levels. I think it is very important for it to be included in every lab panel, and to supplement as necessary to be in the upper range.

We had a nice vitamin D discussion about a month and a half ago.
Everyone was deficient lol.
I'm currently taking a walmart gel cap of 5k IU D3 with breakfast and dinner.

vitamin D test is too damn expensive! one of my customers (Quidel Corporation) is developing a vitamin D strip test, hopefully it will be in the market and OTC soon.

This is really interesting that you posted this. Kelkel and I were discussing this very subject a few days ago, and I told him that I was on the hunt to find some sort of correlation between low "T" and vitamin D deficiency. You just tapped into what I was looking for, thanks for posting.
On a side note for vitamin D therapies ... My doctor just put me on a prescription of Drisdol; taking one tablet of 50,000iu per week. It's basically Vitamin D2 . I just started my 2nd week. My doctor feels this is by far a better route to go as opposed to any of the OTC products that I had been using, so I'm anxious to see how my next set of labs turnout.

I was taking 10,000 IU of D a day, in an oral oil capsule. It raised my D blood levels from 25 to 32. I switched to SuperiorSource sublinqual D (10,000 IU) and my D blood levels went up to 58 -- right where I want them. For me, sublingual D absorbed better.
