    Newbie ?'s about TRT

At 47 I was fat and falling apart-got sicker and sicker till I could not take it anymore and went to the Dr. I was recently put on TRT and it is the gel you put under your armpits.
The results have been far better than expected as I can exercise again (I need to lose weight like yesterday), feel like 17 down below and have tons energy again. My sleep has returned and I don't need as much as well.

Only problem is after a few weeks I thought I was losing hair. Now at 6 weeks of TRT I am starting to see a circle outline of male pattern baldness in back. I know TRT causes hair-loss, but have you ever heard of it happening so quickly? After years of feeling progressively bad, I am NOT going to risk my health by using any kind of hormone drug to fight it , but just concerned about it's sudden appearance.

Had my checkup last week and in closing my Dr offered me 2 things for down the road.

1 Pellets instead of the gel. He said they release over a 6 month period. The gel is not a hassle at all for me and I am perfectly happy with it, but wondering if the pellets are a better choice?

    2) He said I am on a low amount of T and he can increase the amount if I need it-down the road. I already feel great on the amount I am on. A bald spot is already on the way so I don't think I need any more

I have some weight loss questions but will post them in a more appropriate forum.

Thank you from an old newbie.

    welcome bro

i would assume that you were prone to balding and yes some trt can cause dht to increase and speed it up some

i got a spot on the top/back at 43 as well that i'm not too happy about

r u saying you went from fabio to costanza in like a couple weeks, no warning or wut?

    i saw mine gradually

    idk

i'll bump this thread for u

Yes very prone-it's all over my mothers side. I was already a little bit thin but it just kicked in really really fast. Around 2-3 weeks started finding a lot of my hair on bathroom floor/sink. It's not a shinny bald spot by no means, but you can now see a definite circular outline forming in the back. By gradually, you mean like 8months to a year till you saw something??

    Thanks...

Dr told me they put it just under the skin of your butt. Maybe it's new as I know he said the gel I am on is pretty new on the market.

    Two types of administration Schmidty:

Testopel is a extended-release pellet that are inserted under the skin usually in the buttocks. Good for about 3 to 6 months with steady release so has advantages over daily gels/creams and weekly injections...and good E2 control.

Buccal pellets are applied to the gums of the teeth and you can find the product called Striant. The pellet has an adhesive that sticks to the gum and stays there all day slowly releasing Test into the gum but does not seep out into the mouth or into saliva. Tests have shown it does not transfer via kissing or any other type of oral contact

Over 10 years that sounds like just normal thinning-I wish I could say the same. Most of the posters I read said they found they were balding 8 months to a year after starting TRT.
I don't think I am going to mention it to my Dr because I just realized I overlooked something pretty obvious . At the same time my crown started thinning out, I started getting hairy on my chest, legs, arms etc. This has to be nothing more than the T-just wondering why it kicked in so quickly for me compared to others. Thanks for helping calm my nerves and the welcome

I personally have been thinning a bit at the crown and receding slowly but did not notice it increase due to TRT, but i have noticed that my body now grows hair quite well.

Gels, creams will increase dht levels moreso than injectables will. With increased dht comes increased chances or hair loss. Do what GD said above. Personal example for you: When I was on gel my dht shot up into the 140's. One month after switching to injectables it was around
80 and has stayed in that area.

I am sorry but I am too new to TRT to fully understand. I though DHT increase was supposed to be good for you..ie energy and sex drive? My choice is limited to the gel and pellets. Would pellets be better? Thanks...

I think things like nizoral shampoo are safe, otc and effective....

but otherwise, hair effects are one of the for all intents and purposes, unavoidable sides of trt. bald probably isn't that bad of a look though on a fit guy!

transdermal seems to raise dht moreso than injects.

dht IS good.... but it has negatives like hairloss and growth. dht is important like you said.

Hair .... You guys can have some of mine. Mine did the exact opposite with HRT, and hair started growing frequently, and in places it didn't used to grow.

that's my case as well... I am thinking it has a chance to get better/stop when I switch to injecatable from transdermal.

Unfortunately, TRT takes hair from the head and puts it in other places! lol...

well, it really only speeds it up if you were prone to male pattern baldness in the first place, so that's a bit of a cushion I think... because it's not like you knew this wasn't coming!

I will try that along with the minox/rogaine thanks. You are right, I just got hit with a little male vanity/embarrassment. After feeling like death for over 5 years, no way would I want to go back to the things were. After seeing the other side of things, health is far more important that hair ..

Again you are on the money. Some say the mom thing is a myth, but in my case it is true. All guys on that side have it and my crown spot already looks like her brother's when he was younger. A few years ago his oldest daughter was surprised I didn't have it already. Thanks for the support in my time of shameless vanity

DHT is like anything else, to much is not always a good thing. Here's a decent, short read on DHT for you:

    http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/reform8.htm

BTW, one of the members here (Jamotech, I believe) just had pellets implanted and he will be updating his thread on it as he goes along.

Thanks will be interesting to see how the pellets do. Right now I am very happy with the results of the gel as far as feeling better, energy, etc, but will consider the pellets if it is an improvement.
