Appt with Endo!
Finnally an appt with an endo who knows HRT (I hope!) I have been on HRT/ TRT since early 2010 from a wellness clinic. Due to the hight cost of the perscriptions and blood work, treatment has not been consistant and I have dont a bit of rollercostering. I did try to go through my GP and he told me that a test level of about 300 was good and no need of trt regardless of my symptoms, but he would be willing to give me prozac (wtf)
thanks to several posts about calling around to find someone local, I was recommended to an endo who (we shall see) specializes in HRT/TRT, however i need a referal from my GP (here we go again) thank goodness that idiot was gone, but the new GP was not much better and when i told her that i had been on trt she about freaked out. Said that Endos were the only ones who know about this stuff and they know "everything" I told her that I wanted a referal to this certain doctor and she finally agreed. In converstation I told her that i was also prescribed Anastrozel to help with E2 levels and she almost fainted, saying no reason to be on that and I really need to talk to someone who knows what they are doing. I dont think she heard me when i mumbled that i might not be the only one that needs an education on the topic
they sent the referral and just got the call from the Endo and have an appt for thursday! going to get a full blood panel and all, and they take my insurance!
I am doing tons of reading so that I can have an educated conversation with the doc, and from what the nurse said, i will get about an hour with him.
good day! thanks to you all that post, makes going throught this much more tollerable.Last edited by mlandog; 04-26-2012 at 04:52 PM.

Just got back from endo, so disappointed. While he did do a very thorough background chat, he could not understand why any male would take an AI. Said it was a head scratcher for him. I don't mind him checking every possibility but when he ordered the blood work he left off E2 I asked him to put it on and he said ok but not sure what I'll do with it. He said if E2 gets high just back off on the test. Also did not order total test just free because according to his chart I am 6'2" and 235 therefor obese, and total test numbers weren't a factor regardless of body fat%. I m about 18%. Not great but sheesh! He is going to have me do two blood tests a 2 weeks apart and then if they are both low do more blood work
Don't know if I have the patience for his guy.
Sorry to ramble, just a bit frustratedLast edited by mlandog; 04-26-2012 at 02:30 PM. Reason: Word choice

I don't blame you for being frustrated. I'm 6' 1", and I'd LOVE to weigh 235!! (My goal weight is around 200 - 225 with lean muscles...currently around 325). You should have told him you want to actually look like a MAN, a HEALTHY man...you know one that has some muscles...NOT like a walking skeleton! You want some meat on your bones!!
As far as telling you to back off the test if your e2 levels get high, IMHO that's totally ridiculous, and actually hilarious. It would be like a woman asking her Dr. for a prescription for birth control, and he/she would tell her..."If you THINK you might get pregnant...DON'T have sex!!"
My endo is the same way basically when it comes to E2 levels...it seems a lot of Dr.s are. It's a KNOWN FACT...a SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN MEDICAL FACT...if you increase your testosterone level...your estrogen level will also rise. How much depends on a number of things, but it will rise. Why they're so scared, or hesitant to prescribe something that has been shown to keep E2 levels in check, while keeping test levels where they are...or increasing, which IMHO is optimal in a man's health, is mind boggling.
It's almost as if they were taught ONE way, and it was pounded into their heads, and they seem to believe that the way they were taught, is the ONLY way to think. Regardless of what modern science, medicine, technology, AND most importantly ACTUAL RESULTS, prove, or have otherwise proven !
I wish you all the best in your journey, and with your Endo.Last edited by killergoalie; 04-26-2012 at 04:14 PM.

Thanks Killer! I cant tell you how many time he said "well the way i was taught..." i thought about saying alot has happent since 1950.. about loking like a man, I get you, he didnt have an ounce of meat on his bones, guess he wants everyone to look that way.
I am gonna stick with this through the blood work and see how it comes back and his repsonce. I dont have the time or patience to mess around with this guy if he is stuck in some backwards thinking, and wont recognize modern medicine.

Hey no problem. It's like whenever I walk into a health food store, 95% of the time, the people working there look like walking death, or death warmed over.
You should have said that line about a lot happened since 1950...or you should have asked him who his teacher was...Fred Flintstone?
Just look at any NFL defensive back...most of them are around 6' 1" - 6' 3", and their weights are usually around 185-220 lbs. and they're all lean, MUSCULAR, and hard as a rock! How MOST men would want to look!
Good for you for sticking with it though! It's YOUR body - YOUR health!! If this bozo won't do whatever he can to help you, find someone who will!
It's funny though, most of the time, Doctors have a hard time getting their patients to DO more to help themselves, but it seems that with TRT, the MORE the patients want to help ourselves, the LESS the Doctors seem to want to go along with it, or even support it. Are they jealous because maybe, just maybe some of us MAY actually know more about this subject than they do? (Not including myself amongst those who do, but it's obvious a lot of "us" do seem to know more than some Dr's do.) Just saying.

I think the whole abuse of PED has put TRT in a bad light. I felt the whole time like he was trying to find out if I just wanted a script for test. I just want to get a full blood panel and IF it is determined that I need it than put me on it. I DO want continued blood work and to make sure I and doing the right thing (oh and my insurance helping out). I had been with a wellness clinic and could not afford the treatment or continued blood work which I feel was making it worse.
This clown was also confused of why HCG would be needed and when I explained it best I could he said that it was not normal protocol. Huh !?! Paging Dr. Flintstone...
