HMG and fertility
Anyone have any experience with an HMG protocol to increase sperm count? I am not even sure as of now if I will need it, but I would like to be prepared. Been on TRT for about 5 years, 125mg cyp with 500HCG, both split twice a week, adex as well. The wife and I want to make a baby. I am going to do an at home sperm cheeck first and see where I am at. If I am low I was going to continue Test and HCG as usual and ad in HMG. Based on some posts that I read on here from ecdysone and vetteman I was going to use 75ius twice a week for 3 weeks, and then allow 90 days for sperm to start to reproduce. Does this sound right? Or would I need to run it longer and closer to the time when I will be attempting to conceive? I believe ecdysone mentioned that it takes at least 90 days for the sperm to mature and start swimming again. Thanks for any help.

I'm curious about this as well. My wife wants to have another baby in couple of years.

abbot138, replied to your PM about this, but since you essentially said the same as above, I might as well repeat it here.
First, I'm not a medical doc, so I really know jack about fertility.
TRT and fertility don't go well together due to the suppressive effect of supplemental test on both LH and FSH.
To overcome both, one needs fairly high doses of FSH, or more practically, HMG and HCG : probably something like 150iu+ HMG and 1000iu HCG per week.
The three week period to "hatch" the boys and get them swimming is very, very conservative: a fertility doc would keep you on this protocol for at least the full sperm maturity time of 90 days, and then probably more.
Sperm test kits may not be a good solution, since you are going to have to play "sperm scientist." I would suggest buying a nice microscope from ebay (I got a really great one for just over $100) and then buying sperm counting slides from Kokopelli. http://www.fertilityformen.com/ The reason being the immature sperm may not test positive on a more simple kit.
You are going to have to monitor your progress each month. The other issue with just a three week window is that after that there are no replacement boys, so it gives you a very narrow window to do your business and hope for the best.
In any event, good luck and keep us informed.

Yup, got the reply. Thanks for both replies, I really appreciate the help. We aren't really going to start trying until September. And in the beginning I am just gonna keep humping away and see what happens. If we get a few months in and still nothing then I will probably bite the bullet and check out a fertility doc. I have insurance, but my copay for a specialist is $50 and I know from experience that is a pain in the assss getting most of these drugs ( I do my own TRT for this reason). But I am hoping that if I do end up needing it, I will be able to find a fertility doctor familiar with TRT and with HMG therapy....Coming off TRT is NOT an option. I tried it, not going thru it again.

This will be my ABSOLUTE last resort as I just tried it end of last year and did not handle it well. I experience emotionally crippling side effects from Clomid. I dont even mind the loss in muscle and gain in fat, lol. But the emotional stuff is just too harsh (not to mention complete loss of libdio). If it comes to this I will jsut have to deal with it. But I am going to examine other options first....Thanks for your reply.

Abbott, I remember that! We were both in the same boat, and as you suggested I eventually went back to the trt. I got a much better doc than before that's for sure! Dr Crisler is awesome and become a friend as well. I'm going to ask him about Hmg too. Let me know how it works for you! Good luck!

Lol will do. I go in sometime around 2 weeks from now, so I will ask him then. Hes a lot more down to earth and personable than I thought he'd be. Great guy. I finally got fed up with that endo I was seeing.
