Guys that give blood- help!
Hi all:
Been on TRT for over 4 years with great results. Only issue I have is boarder line high hemoglobin. I've been giving blood about 5-6 times per year and hemoglobin is in check (15) but i have depleted Ferritin levels (9) and iron serum (39). How do you guys keep hemoglobin in check without killing iron stores?? Thanks

I personally don't experience the iron drop from giving blood but you should be able to supplement that with either a vitamin or through nutrition such as liver wether its beef or chicken. Beef on its own is high in iron.....

Thanks for the reply bro. Agreed - diet is key to keeping my iron from falling. Also taking an iron pill and will retest in 8 weeks. How much do you give blood per year?

I give approximately every two months. I believe they require 53? days between donations.

Every 2 months is about what I was doing. Do you supplement with iron?

For me, that's the best benefit. I'm a positive carrier for hemochromatosis. My ferritin is >1000 if I don't donate.

Not yet for me.

Wish I could give blood, I've been banned for life. I guess my tour in Turkey got me after all.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm going to lay off the bleeding for now and keep an eye on my hemoglobin and iron levels. The low iron sides I have are just unbearable (reason for this thread). I know some guys don't need to donate and some do (on TRT). I may have to stick with 1 or 2 times per year instead of every 2 months.

all you need is a script from doc to give blood, they will not
use your blood it will be flushed down drain or desposed of some how..if you have a high hemo then you must give blood to lower it,there is a no other way...if you dont your blood will turn brown/rust color and will eventually not carry enough oxygen to sustain life and you guessed it,....you die...

here is a link from the blood connection in greenville,sc ..this is where i go but you should have a similer place in your state...it is free with a script from doc to do this..it would cost you hundreds to do it at a hospital or doc office, they do it as a public service ..http://thebloodconnection.org/produc...ic-phlebotomy/..read about this on link Therapeutic Phlebotomy..

donating is part of TRT protocol, like Kel i donate every two months and some times i do self bleeding due to my hemoglobin high levels. the risk of prolonged high hemoglobin levels are, blood clotting, stroke, heart attack, and the mild sides are feeling sluggish and loss of energy.

just wanted to add one more thing...im considered secondary •Polycythemia resulting directly to the use of testosterone , i dont have a disease and the doc has argued with the blood connection for dumping perfectly good blood but they dont listen,,im just glad they will do it for free..there loss and to the people who could have benefited from my blood donation...lots of iron and red blood cells wasted..hope this helps somebody understand ....also on another note...when i first was told that i must start giving to lower my hemo i almost freaked out! thought it was end of the world,i had to give 6 weeks in a row every wensday!! remember drink lots of water and eat plenty and youl be fine,i also add a zanax and drink a few first, they always have a fan on me and lay me back so that blood cant leave my brain cause legs are higher than your head, otherwise i might pass out...

My recent bloodwork showed I finally just barely crept into the high range for hematocrit.
This is definitely not something you want to pass off because thick blood is a major killer of people today! Its not going to kill me or you in a couple months, but over years it is not healthy.
Unfortunately, my ferritin is very poor! I was taking a multimineral with iron added, and after a few months it literally did nothing! I guess that whole vitamin C needed for iron absorption might pertain to me
So, I am still trying to find a way to bring up my ferritin. Since that last lab test, I have popped 500mg vit C with my daily multi mineral.

if you have a docs prescription stating the level which for me is 15 or more i must give..they will not do it without a script from doc stating the purpose.follow my link in one of the above posts i made..this is for greenville sc, surly there must be a blood place in your area like this..ask your doc..
