What is good nutrition?
Hello everyone,
What exactly is good nutrition?
It seems like many people in the TRT community seems to recommend a paleo diet without grains and processed carbs. Personally, I have eaten not completely paleo, but close to it and without any grains for a long time, without noticeing any differences. I still drank milk, so maybe that is what is missing to reap the benefits.
In the recent post from Dr Mariano, he also says that nutrition is the first thing he looks into.
But what is good nutrition really? Whole organic foods? Low carb? Moderate carb? High carb? What about protein? Fat?
I think we can agree that processed food may not be the best choice, but is grains really evil?
Curious to hear a discussion and some thoughts on this.
Thanks,
Renholder

I just could do not do a paleo diet. I can't get enough protein without my milk.
There was an article on Yahoo news lately about a study done on organic fruits and vegetables in which it showed they were not an insignificant difference health wise.

'Good' nutrition spans beyond TRT. You should head over to the nutrition section, we have a lot of good people over there.

Moderators are free to move this thread if they see fit, but I find it relevant to TRT and related issues, since I`ve been told that a "good diet", aka paleo, can help improve my symptoms.

Nobody is looking to move the thread, G was just saying that the Nutrition Forum is a great resource here, and all of us would suggest any member (TRT or not) would utilize it.

Done paleo before, it's ok but really hard to get large quantities of calories in. My diet right now is based on food immune responses. So I eat lots of meat from pork and beef, then carb sources are fruits veggies, squashes, sweet potatoes, and odd grains like buckwheat, barley, and quinoa. Not having milk hurts, it will be the first thing I try to move back into my diet, love raw milk with all the cream.

To me, ideal nutrition would be organically grown fruits and veggies, no processed sugars, no artificial stuff, organic meats, and generally high-nutrient-density food.
I've made a lot of changes to my diet that is more about where my food comes from more than what my food is. I drink organic milk now, I opt for organic fruit/veggies when available, no more Tyson chickens lol (too much prozac in there for me!)... I've also made an effort to get more fruits in general. Its been slow, not life changing, and can't overlook that its a bit more money, but I know all of this is the right thing to do.
I don't pay attention to high carb low carb though. If someone tells me they are eating blueberries and tons of other fruits and vegetables then more power to them... they're probably getting lots of real nutrition and that's what counts.

Ya imo the important thing is eating lots of whole foods and avoiding all the processed and prepared foods. I hate it though, this local grocery store has nothing but premade crap on it's isles, can't hardly get any real food and their produce is terrible, not even counting the cost. Was in walmart the other day and it drove me crazy as well.

I've been on a similar diet as you Renholder, paleo but kept the dairy in there otherwise I wouldn't be able to get enough calories in.
To be honest I haven't noticed much of a difference other than my bowel movements are better and I don't get painful stomach cramps and bloating anymore which on occasions I had huge problems with. Also my TSH reading came back lower than it was just before I started the diet but my previous high reading might've been an anomaly.
I'd cut out the milk and dairy but then I'd never be able to get enough calories or protein in.

If it comes in a box or a bag be suspicious. Buy accordingly.

I have been on a vegetarian diet for the last 18 months, but consuming dairy and eggs. Everything was going great the beginning of this year with my lifting and health, until whatever happened caused my T to tank and I quit lifting and gained 10lbs of fat which I still need to lose. I do think I'm going to go back to eating meat in a month if I don't start feeling better with the combined TRT + CPAP I'm on. In just a last ditch effort to feel better. Even as a vegetarian I have resorted to eating terrible, probably because of being depressed. Gotta clean this diet up.
