My wife had her T tested
Some of you may remember a post about my wife and a pituitary tumor that ruptured from Rocky Mountain Spotted fever. Well it's been 18 months since that event and she has healed up well. Her endo is only concerned with her cortisol level and thyroid function. Her energy level fluctuates but is predominately low and libido is extremely low too. We both felt like she should have her T tested but of course the doc wouldn't do it. She had her T tested last week and it was way low.....only 4.6 on the Labcorp scale of 7-40 for post menopausal women. She wants to start her own TRT to get it back to a high normal level. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

Find a better doctor so you don't have to be her "practitioner" yourself. It sounds like you should pursue this, a wife with an awesome libido would be amazing.

Agreed with Seoinage,
I would seek out qualified doctor as I am sure the administration of exogenous testosterone to a women will cause other hormonal balance issues that will need to be addressed if you want good results.

I would definitely try to find a doctor who specializes in female HRT.
Having been on this forum for a year or so now, I just wouldn't feel comfortable taking female TRT advice (for my lady) from here... simply because most of us don't know as much about it like we do male TRT. I definitely would not want her to self treat... and I probably wouldn't ever mention that endo in the household again . Worthless endos!

Yeah, definitely get the other panels. It will be critical to also check the thyroid panels, DHEA, SHBG, and estrogen panels (relative to her cycle time), and progesterone. Both of you should read up on the female threads that are in the Sticky for Female Members at the top of the forum.
When/if your wife gets on testosterone , it will be crucial that she watches her dosage amount, and takes follow up panels 6 weeks after starting. My wife is currently on a protocol of 4mg once week of cypionate , with 250iu of B12 methylcobalamin. We will run labs in October, but she aims to be around 45-60ng/dl on her serum level. Her free test sits around 1.8%.

Out of curiosity does a female go into HPTA shutdown when a small amount of test like 4mg a week is used?

Yes, it's pretty much the same process, just that the ovaries are on a negative feedback loop with the pituitary; producing & regulating LH/FSH production. A little bit of testosterone also gets produced in the adrenal glands as well, but nothing significant. Hypogonadism affects females relatively the same way, accept with women the more noticeable attribute that's associated with it is the change up with their estrogen (E1, E2, & E3) production. The depletion of estrogen is dramatic with women during menopause, and estrone (E1) will sometimes be the only estrogen left in their bodies post menopausal.

Same difference, it will suppress LH and drop production in the ovaries.

Thanks for all the input. Actually my wife is a chiropractor so she understands all the bloodwork needed and how to read them and she is post menopausal. She just can't write scripts dang it!!! The problem has been finding a doctor who is willing to even listen to her concerns. We live very close to 2 research/teaching hospitals and it seems everyone is afraid of HRT for women. Does anyone have any experiences with their wife / girl friend going on HRT? Did it help? Make them feel better? More energy?
