    26 year old TRT candidate

So I am still in the process of establishing where I am with my hormone levels and have not been prescribed anything yet but here's what I have going on so far... I am 26 and since I was twenty I have felt like shit... very low libido(it's ruined relationships in the past and puts pressure on my marriage), lack of progress in the gym, chest, belly fat and love handles when I try and do any type of bulking. I am spot on with my training (I am a strength coach and I am spot on with everything there) I am spot on with my nutrition (I am a nutritionist). I always wondered if I was low T but never had it in me to just go and see. Was getting on my wifes insurance and we were going to get a deal if I got set up with a primary care and got general blood work done. While meeting with the doctor I mentioned I wanted my testosterone levels checked, told him my symptoms and he added it. Turns out I had a level of 156 ng/dl... shit. SO, now I am going in again tomorrow for another test looking again at total test as well as prolactin to make sure if it's something going on with my pituitary. While he ordered these follow up tests he told me my options and I made it clear I wanted to go the route of injection if I do in fact need this therapy. He said very briefly what that might consist of, no specific dosage just a dosage frequency of going to the office once every 3 weeks. Now, I know a thing or to about this stuff and I was a little nervous at what he was proposing. I wasn't being prescribed anything yet so I didn't want to get into it with him. Although I did ask about self injection and what the chances of that happening are... basically he said he doesn't do that with his practice b/c of concerns that he doesn't want to deal with.

I am a bit nervous here... when he gets my new results back and more than likely puts me on this therapy what am I to do if he says he's going to dose XXXmg every 3 weeks? How should I go about asking for more frequent dosing without coming off as the know it all patient. And if he doesn't budge then what? Do I get the shot and in the mean time look for a new doctor or do I skip the shot and look for a new doctor? I guess I just need some advice here so I am prepared. As a 26 year old. this is a long road ahead of me and I want to be prepared so I am taken care of properly.

    Welcome, you are amongst friends!

First and foremost, it is not likely that a GP is going to figure out exactly what is wrong with you so being referred to a hormon specialits is of first order.

    Couple of questions first:

Any meds or drugs you are taking???

Is there any aas abuse in your past???

Have you had any injuries to the head or pelvic region???

    Are you diabetic???

    If not, than...

Don't just go on a Testosterone injection protocol because your serum levels are low; a guy your age should be peaking right now and your low serum levels are not age related...so what does that mean?

It means there are usually pathologies associated with levels this low and baring the questions noted above.

Please look and print out the labs you need in the Finding a TRT Doc.

You need all of these to make an accurate assessment.

Also, get a complete Thyroid panel as well, including:

    TSH
    Free T4
    Free T3
    Reverse T3

This will tell you if there are any thyroid issues related to your condition.

Checking for a Pituitary tumor is critical and there you will need besides Prolactin, LH and FSH.

IF all of this checks out you will need to see if there are any coditions with your testes like testicular varcoceles or tumors.

I urge you to NOT go on any Testosterone injections or transdermals till you have a diagnosis.

I am on nothing now, not diabetic, no injuries. I took a strong PH/DS when I was 19 or 20 without understanding what exactly it was. I figured out what I was taking eventually and took proper PCT (clomid, nolva, AI, natural test boosters) and definitely had issues after this. Eventually tried to treat myself with test e and realized it was a bad move. I have put myself through multiple rounds of clomid therapy as well as a round of HCG with little to no success. TSH came back normal, but i don't think he tested for the others. After I get prolactin and second measure of total test levels checked, if the doctor tries to treat me with injections should I deny and ask for a referral? He mentioned he would be coordinating my treatment with an endo.

I am just so frustrated and sick and tired of being SICK AND TIRED. I want my life back, thank you for your help.

while you're waiting for all the investigations to be done, be sure to give yourself the best chance of recovery in the mean time. sleep well, eat well, no drunken nights, and lots of multivitamins.

Op, do what G and asian said. Do not submit to therapy under the care of this doc unless he meets the standards YOU require. He obviously does not know Testosterone therapy nor understand T's half-life.

In the meantime, begin to read all the stickies and self-educate. Sometimes, hell most times, guys here go through 2-3 docs before they find one that is knowledgeable. Use the search engines in the stickies and start looking now to be ahead of the game.

We understand you are sick and tired of being sick and tired. We have been there! Just hang in there a little longer and get proper treatment. You've made it this far you can hang a little longer!

If you're going to a lab for testing fill out the HIPAA Form while there and get the lab results sent to you ahead of time. That way you can post them here and we can analyze them for you as well. It will really help prepare you for your doc appt.

    Good luck

This is what I was looking for.

Does you Doctor have a full understanding of your history?

If not, you must come clean and tell all.

If so, and this is his remedy; I'd want to make 100% sure the Endo he's going to be coordinating your treatment with knows how to work with men who abused steroids and tried to self administer.

If not, they could make matters worse.

My Doc is a TRT specialist and there are Endo's who send their men to him who abused anabolic steroids in the past and need to either be restarted or put on TRT protocols that will make them normal again.

Let me say it one more time; the Endo your Doc works with must have experience in working with men with aas histories.

If not, find one on your own and get it right from the outset.

BTW, for what it's worth, you should have included your history in your original post.

    Get well my friend!

Is there a good resource for finding doctors in my area who specialize in this? I am going to ask my doctor if he knows anyone, but just in case is there anything at my disposal to find someone near me? Or should I just start calling different doctors?

For the most part Physician's who specialize in Testosterone Replacement will know what to do as will most Anti Aging Docs.

Use the tools that kel mentioned.

Keep up posted on outcome here in this thread.

I have a friend who uses "the anabolic doc" Dr. Thomas O'Connor(he's about an hour or so drive away), but apparently he doesn't go by that anymore for some reason as his website is down. I tried calling the number that he was using and it seems as if there is a yearly membership of like 2700 or something... thats not gonna happen. It seems I was able to find some folks in my area using the A4M although they are coming up as women's doctors, dentists and chiropractors. I'll have to keep looking
