    Prolactin Levels

    November/2011 195 T Level
    8.08 Free T
    10.9 Prolactin

    December/2011 109 T Level (Started on 200mg 2x month)

    January/2012 734 T Level

    May/2012 445 T Level
    13.5 Free T
    20.6 Prolactin (High)

    0ct/11/2012 Result: 4.52 Prolactin
    Reference Range: (2.5-17)

My Latest Prolactin Levels are on the Low Side. As you can see back in Nov. 2011 it is in the normal range. Then in May 2012 it was on the high side.

The only things I have done differently from May to October is take 25mg of DHEA in the Morning and 100mg of Pregnenolone in the AM. And my Doctor put me on Wellbutrin 75mg 2x Day.

Wellbutrin raises Dopamine levels which lowers Prolactin Levels, but I'm on a very low dose of Wellbutrin, so I can see it going down some, but not that low in a short period of time, 5 months.

Any thoughts on my fluctuating Prolactin levels? Thanks!!!

And DHEA can have a profound effect on both Testosterone and E2 levels. Remember it's a precurser to T so it goes hand in hand. It will also help to lower your LDL ratio, possibly significantly. It did mine. Many more great benefits to DHEA, just don't overdo it.

Regarding your protocol. 200mg x 2 per month? I assume that is every two weeks your injecting 200mg? If so, that explains many of the fluctuations your body is going through. It has no consistency. Your hormones are constantly rising and falling and any test results will rise and fall based on when you pull blood relative to your injection. Consider at a minimum going to 100mg every week for more consistent levels. And like Jimmy said, learn what your E2 levels are with a sensitive assay. If you use Labcorp and need the proper codes for their sensitive assay I can provide them.

edit: Your E2 level was just posted and is perfect! Don't overly concern yourself with prolactin. Lower levels are just fine. BTW, did your doc determine why your T was so low? Primary, secondary, pathology, etc.?

I'm getting ready to switch from 200mg 2x a month, to 100mg a week starting in November.

No my Doctor has not determined cause. I'm pushing to see a Endocrinologist. They move very slowly.

Are there some causes other than possible adrenal gland and/or pituitary gland problems?

    Thanks!!

Hypothyroid is a major contributer to low T in males so a complete thyroid panel would be a plus. Include TSH, FT3, FT4 and RT3 if they will. Even elevated cortisol can lower T. Do you happen to have pre-TRT LH & FSH levels handy? If LH/FSH levels are high and T low your probably primary hypogonadal (testical issue.) If LH/FSH are low and T low that would indicate secondary hypo (pituitary issues.)

At your age and with a 195 T level (at one point) I'd be asking the doc to run an MRI to rule in / out pituitary adenomas as well.

The dopamine and prolaction relationship is very strong and well established.

Maybe someone on this site knows more about wellbutrin's effects on it, but beyond that, I would say it's not suprising at all if wellbutrin is a dopamine agonist. It makes perfect sense.

But really, my thoughts on the matter as it stands is that I would not be worrying about your particular PRL level... it's in range and not really outstanding at all.

I did have a Thyroid panel done in the past, but I can't find all of the results. I had a 24-hr Cortisol test done 2 years ago and it came back normal then.

    Date/Time Collected: 08 Sep 2010 @ 0818

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Test Name: CORTISOL
    Result: 0.4 Low
    Units: ug/dL
    Reference Range: (3.1-22.4)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lab Test: Thyroid Stimulating Hormone~ADVIA CENTAUR
    Lab Type: Chemistry/Hematology
    Date/Time Collected: 21 Apr 2011 @ 1201

    Test Name: THYROTROPIN
    Result: 1.778
    Units: mIU/L
    Reference Range: (0.46-4.7)
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

At this Point in time they had started me on TRT, but it was such a ridiculous low dose that I don't think it would have an adverse effect on the below numbers. They were giving me 200mg of Test Cyp 1 x month.

    Lab Test: Testosterone
    Specimen: Serum
    Date/Time Collected: 07 Nov 2011 @ 0813

    Test Name: TESTOSTERONE
    Result: 195

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Lab Test: Luteinizing Hormone
    Specimen: Serum
    Date/Time Collected: 07 Nov 2011 @ 0813

    Test Name: LUTROPIN
    Result: 1.41
    Units: mIU/mL

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Lab Test: Follicle Stimulating Hormone
    Specimen: Serum
    Date/Time Collected: 07 Nov 2011 @ 0813

    Test Name: FOLLITROPIN
    Result: 3.07
    Units: mIU/mL
