Which test(s) go get...
Hi. I've given up trying to get my GP and/or Endo to give me blood work for Free Test and the Estradiol Sensitive assay. He will do Total T and SHBG....that's it. So, here are the options from Privatemedlabs.com:
[B]Testosterone (Free) , Serum (Equilibrium Ultrafiltration) With Total Testosterone
Testosterone, Free (Direct) With Total Testosterone, LC/MS-MS
Testosterone, Free (Direct), Serum
Testosterone, Free (Direct), Serum With Total Testosterone
Testosterone, Free and Weakly Bound
Testosterone, Free, Equilibrium Ultrafiltration With Total Testosterone, LC/MS-MS
Testosterone, Free, Mass Spectrometry/Equilibrium Dialysis
Which T test is appropriate? I'm confused as to which one is the one for me/us. If he's testing for Total T, I guess I only need Free T, or should I just get both done?
On my last Blood test (yearly), I convinced him to do Estradiol and it was at 47. I've been suplementing with DIM for a month, or so. I know the sensitive assay is preferred (and privatemedlabs offers that test), but couldn't I just get estradiol done this one time just to see if the DIM is working?
I know there are other important tests, but this is all I feel I need right now. I had a full panel done three months ago.
BTW...I'm on two packets of testim each day. No visible or physical signs of any issues and I feel fine...not perfect, but much better than six months ago.
thanks for any info/input!!Last edited by Rusty11; 10-31-2012 at 06:09 PM.

for follow up at least get
Total T - serum
Free T - serum
Estradiol - sensitive

Those sites often have male hormone panels that have what you need and are cheaper than getting the individual ones.
Depending on what numbers you've had drawn in the past, you'll definitely want total T and estradiol sensitive.
There are pretty much a whole slew of tests you can have done that might be good... but what are you trying to do? Just see what the DIM is doing? Because if so I'd prbably only need to see total T and e2 sensitive.

Thanks HRT...well, my GP will be doing his every-three-month bw that consists of total t and shbg. Those will be done via the usual insurance. Re: sensitive assay, I've never had that done. Only regular estradiol has been done. But, in answer to your question, yes...I want to know if the DIM is doing anything for me. I'll just pay to get the free/total t and e2 done. Appreciate the info.
