Questions about TRT
Hey everyone, I finally got my blood test results back from the doctor....I'm 32 and my free test is 58.1 and my total test is 297. I was wondering if your doctors tried any other treatments first before going to TRT?

That ^^^ and find out the actual reason your low before embarking on TRT. The issue causing your low T may be fixable with an astute doc and a proper diagnosis.

What do you mean "he" wants to start. Your opinion counts here as well. First, as previously stated you need to find out what the causative factor is. Don't jump on TRT without knowing the cause. Many things can cause low T like hypothryoid, high cortisol, pathologies etc. Did he even say if he felt your were potentially primary or secondary hypogonadal?
Post your BW up here with ranges please. Need to see your LH/FSH and thyroid levels if possible. You need to be able to see your doc and hit him with the correct questions. If he can't answer some of these things you need to find a new doc before you begin any form of treatment, IMO.

I haven't met with him yet concerning this issue. I was just told about my test levels a few days ago. I am waiting to see what he says because I want to see what direction he wants to go in. If he wants to jump right into TRT without any tests, then I will be finding a new doctor. Of course I will post my BW after I get a full panel done.

So my doctor told me today that my total test level (297) doesn't matter, only the free test level (58.1). Since my free test level is normal then he doesn't suggest anything at this time. But if I want he said he would refer me to an endo (which I am doing).
If the total test level doesn't matter, then what's the point in testing for it?

It is amazing to see the variance of doctors' thoughts on HRT. At some point, if they were smart, they would really hone in on this idea of hormonal balance. It would keep their patients much healthier in the long run. Then there are the drug companies that don't necessarily want people to not need all the Meds. I'm sure they hate Preventative Care.

He just doesn't know how to treat TRT. That's all.
Find a new doctor. Before you go see that endo, I would try my best to make sure he actually knows how to treat low testosterone and not just look at lab reports. Seriously.

Endo said levels are fine....so going back to primary today to talk about all of my symptoms and see what he says about that. If nothing, then time for a new doctor.
