Questions concerning my dad's HRT
So my dad has been getting test shots, I was chatting with him about it today. Apparently he is getting 400mg of Cyp every 3 weeks. Is this the norm or should he be getting a shot at least once a week to keep levels stable? The nurse was also able to get 6 shots of 2ml out of his 10ml prescribed vial. I nearly died when he said that so something isn't right. He is seeing a Urologist that is giving this to him, shouldn't he be seeing an Endo doc? One more question, shouldn't he be getting his estrogen level checked when bloodwork is done?
I don't know much about HRT but it seems like this Doc doesn't know much about it either! He is going to see the Doc in a week so I was hoping for some points or questions I can forward to him to bring to his visit.
Thanks guys!!

The doc is doing more harm than good to your dad. Shots should be administered a minimum once a week, better twice a week. Yes he MUST test for e2. Complete TRT at a minimum consists of,
Testosterone once or twice a week
AI as needed and based on BW
hCG

Your poor dad, damn, I can only imagine the hormonal roller coaster ride he must be feeling! He should change doctors immediately! 50mg twice a week would do wonders for him, ( Monday morning, and Thursday night)... even 100mg once a week is better than what he is doing now... Do you have blood work for him you can post? Do your homework and pass it on to your dad, your a good son.
Good luck

How does your dad feel compared to before he was on TRT?
The "norm" is probably more along the lines of 100mg once per week. But people are different so this can vary.

Jesus Blue that horrible. I bet he's going in and paying a doc visit every time as well. Bullshiat! Shots should be once a week at a minimum for more stable levels and he should be injecting himself weekly or have a family member help. If he's getting 400mg in one injection he will subsequently get a huge spike in E2. Test's half life is about 5-7 days metabolism dependent so after that it's all down hill for his T level. He must feel like crap for the last 2-3 weeks or so. And yes, the math is off.
What type of doc he sees doesn't matter. The title endo does not mean they automatically know TRT. If he's A4M certified then your in good hands. That's not the case. Any doc that knows hormones and will treat properly while listening to how the patient feels is what you need. Not just one who lives off numbers on a BW chart. If this guy won't adapt to a proper protocol then you simply need to find a new doc. Probably should anyway. I don't know how far your dad wants to take his program, meaning including ancillaries like HCG /AI's, etc., but he at least needs to be weekly as stated. You may consider even less than 100 mg per week which may still keep him at a decent T level and help to control his Estrogen as well. If he is elderly I'd suggest keeping it as simple as possible. If younger then do it up! Turn him on to this site and start reading the stickies. He may really enjoy it!
Yes, he should be getting his E2 checked with a sensitive assay (important.). It's not uncommon for middle aged men to have higher estrogen levels than women. Read the Finding a Doc Sticky as there are BW examples in it. The follow-up BW is what you need to look at. Eliminate LH/FSH unless it's his first follow-up since initiating TRT. Read this on Estrogen:

Let us know how it goes please....

Thank you all for the quick replies!!! I knew something sounded fishy and told him he should be getting at least a shot once a week. He goes on the 17th for BW, I had already told him I wanted a copy to post on here!!! I'll keep you guys posted!!

Update
My dad had a visit with his Dr yesterday and I gave him some info before he went in. To refresh your memory, the Dr is giving him 400mg every 3 weeks with no Ai or HCG . This visit he was seen by the Dr's assistant and not the Dr himself. My father brought up his concerns about estrogen becoming an issue with the high dosage of test and the guy replied with "we don't need to worry about that with what we're doing." He also informed my dad that his levels were still too low and he needs to come back in 2 weeks. I decided I will be attending this visit with him.
I forgot to mention last time that my dad is 66 so I'm not sure if he needs to be worrying about the AI and HCG as much due to his age. Also, he has had several stents, 2 appalachians, a pace maker, continues to have arrhythmia, also has presenting symptoms of congenital heart failure. I know that Test can affect cardiac tissue so should he avoid the HRT?
When I go to the Dr with him I will get copies of his bloodwork.
Oh yeah, is there a site to find an A4M certified Dr? I went to the A4M site but it warns you that the list is made of paying members. What's the best route to go? He refuses to make the trip to Michigan to see Crisler!!
