How long have you been taking the vit D? Do you take vit D with food?

Why are you seeing the doctor other than your Hemochromocytosis?

Your T and thyroid both look like they are sluggish enough to need some intervention. (not necessarily HRT)

Hey HRT, I have been taking vit d since a month ago at the doses stated. before i would take like 2000 iu's every other day.I take it in the morning now with breakfast.Im 48, in pretty decent shape [weight trainer since high school] and Im seeing my hematologist because my iron is so high.I also wanted to discuss my symtoms with him. I do have an appointment in Dec. with a very good urologist for the low test numbers. This bw was done at the end of Sept. and then I found this forum and started to read and lurk. Great guys here. What do you think could cause the sluggish t and thyroid ?

Probably the biggest factors for poor thyroid and T is general nutrition and lifestyle.

Do you eat a very "western" diet, high in processed foods?

For the most part, diet and lifestyle play a huge role in everything related to our mental and physical health. It's also something that can't be cured with a pill... so it's hard to "treat."

But given your age, it's very reasonable to consider TRT. Let's face it, even if your nail your nutrition and lifestyle your body is starting to age. Going on TRT will certainly halt the testosterone decline, and for many men it's a difference of night and day.

I would definitely talk to your doctor about TRT and find out if they are able to treat it (read the stickies to ensure your doc is good, or find a new one).

Personally, I wouldn't go jump on thyroid meds though, but I know nothing about your lifestyle and diet. Again, these are huge factors. Your thyroid doesn't appear to be dismal, but it likely needs improvement.

My diet isnt perfect, but I dont eat fast foods. Sometimes wings and a couple of beers. Non smoker, no drugs about 6 1/2 -7 hours of sleep a night, but never thru the night. always waking up for something.poor quality sleep definetly. The urologist i,m going to see in Dec. comes highly recommended by a forum member. I am going to ask my hemotologist about the high iron causing some of the issues , like, tiredness ,low energy, light headedness, low libedo, etc.

Agree with HRT. I'll add that you should be regularly donating blood. High iron will cause the symptoms you describe. It deposits in various glands in your body such as your pituitary and heart, etc. Read this:

Your December appt is approaching. Bring all your BW with you and have all your questions ready!

High iron like that can definitely be attributed to problems. You definitely need to be managing your Hemochromocytosis with your doctor.

Be sure to express all your concerns with your upcoming doc. Don't play things down or they might not know how much it is effecting your life.

As far as diet, I really think you need to improve there. I was a lot like you - didn't drink or smoke. But that's so far from eating a nutrient dense, well rounded diet. It is simply "not as bad as it could be". I have no doubt it played a part in my lackluster health.

Thanks Kel and Hrt. Good info. The problem with me is my iron was in check for about 4 years, nothing needed to be done. So my hemo cut me loose to my gp to keep monitored with twice yearly blood work. Like most people I took my gp's evaluation that everything is normal range. I finally wised up and started to request my lab info. H e obviously wasnt looking at bthe correct numbers or didnt care. Thats when I made another appointment with my hemo to get him to write me a script to have blood removed.thanks again guys

Had my appointment today with hemo. HE reviewed my numbers as compared to previos 5 years and said that they are the same. HE doesnt even see a need to give blood for my specific gene mutation. I asked him if he could write me a script to have blood drawn at the hospital and he said that the insurence co. would have a hard time justifying the expense because my numbers are not high for a hemochromatosis patient. I asked him to have his staff look into it anyway.[I have an issue with were they draw blood from] Also he said my symptoms of low energy, fogginess, blah feelings are not related to the level of ferratin I have. So my trip to the eurologist is even more important to me than just low test numbers. Thanks again guys.
