Pregnenolone also can be converted into the other hormones, which is why it is sometimes referred to as the mother of those hormones. Hormones released by the pituitary gland regulate these conversions. The body can change pregnenolone into DHEA or progesterone, depending on its needs at a given moment. In turn, both of these hormones can be chemically manipulated to produce androstenedione, the direct precursor to the sex hormones, which include testosterone and other androgens as well as estradiol and the other estrogens. The progesterone molecule also can be altered to make cortisol (the so-called “stress hormone”) and aldosterone (involved in blood pressure regulation). None of this would be possible if the body did not contain pregnenolone.

as far as I know, pregnenolone will not appreciably improve your DHEAs levels.

    it did nothing for mine.

Raised my progesterone up though quite a bit...

I am currently taking 50mg a day of DHEA and Pregnenolone based on recommendation on this board and the low levels I had when I had my DHEA-S readings.

When I go back for BW next time, what should I test for for these?
    DHEA-S and pregnenolone?

Yes. How else will you know if it's working or not. This way you can then titrate accordingly. Micronized I hope?

You can only test for DHEA-Sulfate and the Pregnenolone assays are not accurate and why you don't see them.

Remember something guys, of the 50 mg of DHEA and Preg you take in a pill form only 5% to 7% is making it into the bloodstream...not a lot.

Micronized formulations have been proven to have a better uptake and BW from more than a few Docs have shown to increase serum levels.

DHEA is best at the top of the reference range...I have a post in here somewhere on just that topic.

Also, DHEA supports more pathways then just the androgen pathway as well.

It's just good to take both no matter how much makes it in as every bit counts when we want to back fill our pathways.

You might want to add progesterone to that. I found out that I shot up my progesterone when taking pregnenolone. What can I do with this information, however, is another story. But at the very least, it will help tell the story over time when examining blood work and notes.

I've tested for them G. I think it's interesting specifically because of its transformational nature. But my doc also will let me test literally anything I'm curious about!

    What lab tested Preg kel?

Everything I've read on it say the labs that are out there for testing preg are wildly inaccurate.

One reason is that there are much higher concentrations of preg found in the nervous tissues (like 10 fold) than in the bloodstream so the lab is not accurate in measuring the bodies actual amount of the serum level.

It's one reason why my Doc doesn't test it.

It's old I'm sure but will try to dig it up. Soon as I get done hacking up a lung here. Dying I think.
No doubt labcorp though as I only use them.

Oh, I know it can be tested it's the accuracy that's in question. Most of the preg in our bodies are stored in tissues not the bloodstream.
