    Frozen Androgel 1.62%

Hi everyone: After a week of grief dealing with Palisades Pharmacy, I finally received my Androgel 1.62%. When I picked it up though, a decent amount of it was frozen. Is this okay to use? Or should I request another shipment?

    P.S. Don't use Palisades Pharmacy.

Whew. That's a relief! I don't know. I haven't opened the container, just left it to thaw. Should I wait till it does thaws then look inside? And will letting it thaw rid it of any crystallization?

How do you know its frozen?

Is it in the pump container? I was on that product... and I just don't even understand how you know its frozen?

Regardless, I would probably tell them to reship it if they could not assure me it was 100% normal and effective to use. That stuff is expensive...

It is in a pump container. I can tell because the frozen portion rattled when I moved it.

I might. It was just such a hassle the first time.

I wouldn't waste my time with frozen androgel ... honestly it sounds pretty messed up! The stuff doesn't even need to be frozen so why they would... I have no idea.

Do you pay out of pocket for the stuff? I know androgel is readily available at most local retail pharmacies like CVS walgreens, etc... but the stuff is super expensive. They billed my insurance around $800 a month - yes 8 0 0 - when I was Rx'ed it.

Yes, it is messed up. Hopefully I can find out if it's harmful to the substance, though.

I do not pay out of pocket. It is hard to believe that people can. I am 20 years old, and fortunate enough to have great insurance through my parents.

I expect it's not harmful for it to be frozen, else they would have shipped it a better way in the winter.

I do not believe the freezing would damage the androgel chemicals. But what I would be concerned about is the possibility that the testosterone fell out of solution, therefore you may end up with less or more testosterone per pump. I have no doubt that the literature included in the Androgel 1.62% box says what temperatures the drug is to be stored at. It's probably something like 50-80 degrees F. I don't have that info handy, but if it bothered me a little bit, I wouldn't hesitate to call the pharmacy and see what they can do to resolve the situation.

Okay good, my main concern was that the gel itself was damaged. I thought of that as well but it would be surprising. I use the meter-pump bottle. You can't take the pump off and it appears that gel can only be pushed up and through a very small area. That and the fact that there are no punctures on the bottle makes me thing it's okay. The literature stated that the excursions were at a low of 15 degrees C. It was obviously way lower than that to freeze.
