My previous clinic pushed it hard, finally broke me down and I bought it. Should of trusted my gut, felt zero benefit whatsoever, just another product for them to push and profit off of. In fairness, there are two types of injectable from what I understand, I had the "lesser" of the two, do not recall the names.

Do you feel the benefits from it? Do you go in and have your Doc inject you or are you allowed to self inject?

I didn't realize there are 2 different types of B-12. How many shots did you take before you realized you felt nothing?

I take b12 shots as well. Don't notice any real effect from it, but I know having mid to low b12 levels is bad.

The two forms of b12 are cyano and methyl. Methyl is supposed to be better, but i have never found it for sale. My doctor said the same thing. I presume he takes b12... I know some of his other patients do.

Get your level tested if your worried. And if you can absorb oral or sublingual then just do that. It's just as good IF it gets your level up, and its probably cheaper.

There is a b12 shortage in the USA though... not enough money for big pharma I guess. I heard just yesterday from my pharm tech that they actually stopped making b12 in the 10mL bottle! Just the pricey 1mL's now. Other pharmacies may obviously still carry it.

Probably just a myth from the distributors to raise prices. My firm sells raw B12 to both Human & Vet Drug Mfgs for injectables. Most of it comes from China & some US production. I can tell you there's no shortages ex China...

Oh I don't doubt that the materials are not readily available, its just that pharmacies (big ones) don't bother because, undoubtedly, insurance companies are after bigger profits.

My local Walmart has not had b12 for 8 months, Walgreens hasn't had it for at least 6. Costco is out too...

I take 3-4 of those 5 hr energy shots every week, they have a lot of B 12 in them. That and a multi vitamin and my B 12 is always pegged out on my BW.

Didn't recommend them, said it works for me. And a hell of a lot cheaper than shots.

b12 shots arent necessary, the sublinguals work just as well. I have taken 5-15,000 mcg per day for YEARS and im lost without it. It has regulated my metabolism like nothing else....i used to be skinny for years despite lifting until i took it.

It's important to take either dibencozide(adenocobalmin, or methylcobalmin) I take methylcobalmin by jarrow, the 5,000 mcg sublinguals. There are also forms called hydronocobalmin and cyanocobalmin. These especially the latter, are inferior because they aren't coenzymes. Cyano also converts to cyanide.

search jarrow methyl 5000....i love taking them nice cherry flavor.

How on earth are we comparing B12 shots to 5-hour energy drinks? B12 is far more than energy...

Some people simply don't absorb enough b12 to get them into high range of normal...

overpriced junk that misleads consumers for the most part...

I don't have anything inherently against caffeine nor B vitamins though.

that surprises me as i've heard nothing but good things about the sublinguals vs the shots. I prefer the sublinguals though, i enjoy the placebo of sucking on my b12.

I certainly didn't mean to come across as endorsing energy shots, I buy the cheap Sam's brand for around $12 for a case of 24. I don't always feel like having coffee in the mornings and will drop an energy shot on the way to the gym. After reading the above statement about cyanocobalmin converting to cyanide and seeing that's the form of B 12 in the energy shots, I suddenly don't think as highly of them. There being different types of B 12 is something I wasn't really aware of, but that's why I'm here is to learn.

I often feel like I have so much to learn I shouldn't say anything at all. Haha. Thanks to everyone for the great discussion.

not only does cyano convert to cyanide, but it is also not nearly as effective as dibencozide or methylcobalmin. I prefer methylcobalmin. Jarrow has been the most effective for me...but make sure you go for the sublinguals. Dosage varies on what makes you feel good, but for me i need at least 5000 mcg per day to feel good. It's the same with d3, if i dont take at minimum 5-10k per day my joints hurt.
