It would seem to me you would be better served by going the TRT route.
Here's a 39 year old that recently attempted to restart with clomid and failed and is presently starting TRT:

Are you suffering from hypogonadism? If so, yes it will help. But i would much rather use TRT to restore low T levels than Clomid.

May i ask why are you considering Clomid? Did you read something on line or did a health professional recommend this protocol? Just curious..

For the people on this forum to be most useful to you, it's best you give some background information. This way we won't have to guess and ask questions of you.

my last test reading was 381. This reading is after being on androgel for approx 1 year. Have done some reading on the use of clomid and some doctors try it first before trt. Have also read alot on it that has been posted on this forum. Just looking for some feed back on the use of it. As "T" is low and have shrinkage. HCG did nothing as I think my age could be a factor.

Took HCG 250 twice a week. Then eod. Increased to 500 same time frame. at least 6 months or more.
Doctor said "T" was in range and no increase.

Did you ever see copies of your own blood work during these 6 months? If you haven't, I'd suggest you request copies for your own records. Have you considered increasing the frequency of your dose? Dr. Crisler's protocol includes doses of 250iu every day to every three days. Please try to volunteer more information to save time here. Thanks.

Seeing your blood work would be useful.

Having said that, a short trial of clomid is a very legitimate intervention. Despite your age, the clomid trial could be valuable. Have your doc start you on a LOW dose... 12.5mg per day or less even. Too much is associated with more side effects and no more benefit.

Read Dr Dachs posts on clomid at his website drdach.com . Very good post on clomid there from an expert.
