    Causes of Low Test

    Good Morning,

I have been reading up on the TRT. Question... is there any other reason (other than let's say cancer) that could cause low testosterone in men other than hypogonadism?

Or is the question not why you have low test, but why you have hypogonadism?

over weight seems like a catch 22 problem. The more you weigh, the less Test you have. The less Test you have the more you weigh.

Opiods, SSRI's, statins are the main meds that lower T levels. Theres primary hypo (testicals are malfunctioning). Secondary hypo (weak or absent signal (LH) from pituitary to testicals to make T. The 3rd Is Late Onset Hypogonadism. This is the aging male. Most aging men over the age of lets say 45 fall into this category. These guys can have characteristics of both. Best to have the well trained doc Look at LH,FSH and Total T levels to make proper diagnoses.

    Other reasons.

Klinfelters syndrome--both with XXY chromosomes and therfore lower T levels
Any trauma to testicles (induces primary hypo)
Any trauma to head (induces secondary)
Radiation treatment to the above areas

And lets not understate LIFESTYLE bad food, seditary lifestyle, heavy alcohol use (lowers T big time). Studies have also showed obese men with an unhealthy BMI have 50% less testosterone then a man of healthy weight. Hope this helps your research.
