Heads-up: Consumer Reports advocates against TRT
Just a big F.Y.I. The July 2013 issue of Consumer Reports has an article on page 14, titled, "'Low T': Don't Fall for the Hype". The last paragraph states:
Our advice: There's nothing romantic or age-defying about a drug that comes with long term risks to you and the people you live with. Try safer ways to bring back that lovin' feeling: Eat right, exercise, reduce stress, and have a long talk with your partner and your doctor. If you do need treatment, reassess after a few months and watch for worrisome side effects in you and those around you.
Well, I guess that settles it. ;-)

Ridiculous statement. Far more of a risk to your health living without it. Stats pretty much prove that. No doubt they're referring to gels that seemingly people must just slop on the then grab their partner. At least with their research. And we all know full well that they will be on it (test) one day soon enough.....
Then they relate it all to sex.
I do agree with the eat right, exercise and lifestyle stuff first if "borderline" hypo and improvements can be made.

I'm just starting trt and the reason I decided had nothing to do with sex. I don't have problem getting excited, so my wife is happy my problem was more ejaculation and energy, and other problems to line higher cholesterol levels when I eat properly. Everything I have read and researched, not just here at this site but all over the net there are far more problems with lowt then not. Like heart disease, diabetes and so on.

I really don't have a problem with this... I didn't read the whole thing, but look at the title: "don't fall for the hype"
we actually advocate the same sentiment on this very forum - regularly. there is a lot of hype out there and notice they bring up the "romantic" and "age-defying" notions that many lay people have with HRT in general.
TRT is not about that, but when its medically indicated, it can absolutely help. if it's not medically indicated then "don't fall for the hype!"

Well put. But read the whole thing. You'll see the slant and people who are considering TRT, and who trust Consumers could be influenced. This is a biased piece and it is misleading in a very sly way.
I should have started TRT fifteen years ago and it was articles like this one and the advice of either undereducated, or misinformed or incompetent doctors that influenced me and had me put off treatment for such a long time. This is a very, very harmful article and it's easy to see how it can sway ones thinking.

I usually appreciate Consumer Reports reviews, but they can chew the bark off my big fat log on this one. While I agree with some of their advice they seem to really oversimplify TRT to "makes ya horny." That isn't why I went to the doctor and libido wasn't the biggest benefit I received.

Dr. John Santa is not even qualified to make an impact here. Neither is the author. So that article/opinion is rendered useless either way.

From the artical:
"The gel forms of testosterone , applied under your arm or on your upper arm and shoulder, can be transferred to others if you don’t wash the area after applying it. Children exposed to the hormone have experienced enlargement of the penis or clitoris, growth of pubic hair, increased libido, and aggressive behavior. "
-All sounds good to me...lol

Meanwhile, if Consumer's really wanted to do justice to HRT and the millions of people who's lives have been better because of it, they could have written a completely different article. And everyone on this forum knows this well.
Absolutely, there has been a certain degree of hype but I believe the ads we see daily on TV are a blessing to those who have been suffering silently because it brings the "hidden disease" of testosterone deficiency into the sunlight. Pharmaceutical companies didn't create Low T. Let them spend millions! IMO, it's the best thing that has happened to make people aware of the issue - and encourage people who have been in doubt to take that first step.Last edited by 2Sox; 06-24-2013 at 07:54 AM.

So a naturally occurring human produced predominantly male hormone is bad for a...wait for it..male (yes, I know ladies have it too). Who would have ever thought? I agree that precautions have to be made when using this drug, especially around family members. But then we are either adults or we are not. I think I have seen alcohol induced males do more harm to family members than test induced males... Just sayin.

I think it is because of the whole steroid and sports that they concentrate on, not the positive uses they have.

Well I guess you if you're a patient of John Santa MD, Deca is out of the question! Lol But this shows the sheer ignorance there is out there, and to make matters worse, this guy has a bully pulpit.

100% utter and total garbage. Youll be seeing more and more of this propaganda until big pharma can shut down or hinder our beloved compounding pharmacies. Its all politics and $$$. I say let them try. There are just too many indisputable double blind placebo resistant studies out there not to mention all the happy as *^%$ men out there who are on TRT.
