    Cool got dad's bloodwork

so, my dad is a 56 almost 57 diabetic(not on insulin ), and on cholesterol meds. I posted his bloodwork back in march, and his total tesrt was 320, lh was 5.6 or so, and fsh around 22. His total t this time rose to 412(which isnt terrible for 56 imo..and higher than mine lol), his lh rose from 5.6 to nearly 14! his fsh rose to around 30.

the lh and fsh suggest primary however primary guys dont make 412 ng/dl especially at 56 years old. Im guessing my dad's meds are killing his test

my dad's free test was well below the range. im guessing his shbg is verrrry high. would t injections even help? With a high shbg isnt he doomed?

btw his estradiol non sensitive was around 9..which i know is a little low but im proud of him for having a low number and not a high one I get my low e from him

his results perplexed me..and i think his pituitary obviously works, his balls have to work to be pumping out 412 ng/dl tt, i think his statins and diabetes meds are killing his t.

one thing i found odd was that back in march his prolactin was LESS THAN 0.1, and this time it was 7.5 on a scale of 4-15i.2. is that cause for alarm?

the range on his total testosterone was 193-740 but it was still ng/dl so i figure it's universal
    total t 412.3 (193-740)/..was 320 back in march
prolactin 7.5(4-15.2) was less than 0.1 in march
    estradiol 9.37(7.69-42.60)
his free t was 5.66 o na range of 7.2-23. back in march it was only 1.7 lol

his lh was 13.4(1.7-8.6) back in march was only 5.6
his fsh was 30.7(1.5-12.4)...in march it was 23.3
now that he;s on 5000 iu vitamin d per day his d went up to 36.6 from 22.4, but id like it higher.

so my dad is 57, on tons of meds, and still is producing more t than me..go dad

well its the first time ive seen LH and FSH that high. yes the meds will have a negative impact on his hormones but it doesn't seem like it in his case! as for the SHBG, BW is the only way to find out. are you suggesting self medicating? I hope not!

well 412 still isnt really a good level, but with lh and fsh that high you'd expect him to be primary...with levels below 200.
No i dont know what gave you the idea i want my dad to self medicate..not that he would, he doesnt even want to go to the dr for trt period..he only gets the bw ro humor me.
what im asking is, if his shbg is high and the cause of his low free t, isnt he hopeless? if we raised his total t to 1000 but his shbg were still high wouldnt his free t sill be crap?

yes, and if that's the case simply do two injection a week and take vitamin D, 10,000 ius ed. this is known to lower SHBG.

yes for your second question. probably should have answered yes and no. free T will go up some but if he binds then his free T will suffer. I know what you mean about being stubborn, members of my family always complain about pain, weakness, feeling old, etc... but when I tell them about hormone balance it goes in one ear and comes out the other. they don't want to even know about it. sucks! for them.

Age 53, My 1st T test ( a year ago )was in the 400 range. My Lab came back borderline from having high cholesterol, Docs love handing out that liver killing cholesterol pills. I Did a diet check, reduced my cholesterol on my own. Plus did a weeks worth of vitamin D therapy very high daily dose for 1 week. That has been a year ago. Since my T had dropped into 200 range, I did not trust the 1st test anyway. I would not just rely on one single lab test. Labs can make a mistake just like anything else. Now on TRT, and going to request the good grade, Vitamin D, and get a B12 shot.

Anyway, I have had some friends had some bad side effects on that cholesterol pills, it can destroy liver, muscle, and cause fatigue, alot of pain. Anyone taking it should at a min get their blood checked atleast every 6 months.

I would look at what meds he is on and see if there is a way to get off of them. A lot of people get put on cholesterol meds when they don't even truly need them. They'll put you on for numbers that are really quite safe, as well as loading people up with tons of meds that do more harm than good. If he's borderline sometimes some eating changes and healthy exercise can be enough to make the difference.

As for test injections, I had really low free test when I started trt, now my free is above range compared to my total being mid range. With him pumping out that much lh and fsh I wouldn't just jump on trt right away, not that he would be willing either, but like bass was said look into ways to increase free t if you can, and it may be as simple as some reduction of unnecessary medications and lifestyle changes, then again I know nothing about his activity levels. But it is always best to make attempts to improve things without adding more meds first.
