How did low t slowly rob you?
Mine started around 30, now that I think about this. First thing was getting injured easier in the gym. Then less time in the gym and finally a pathetic 25 mins a few times a week and skipped weeks completely . R/c hobbies then stopped. I struggled but kept trying to do car work on my muscle cars projects and such. Then sex drive and energy died, 4 caffeine pill a day habit to function started, of course relationship with the wife suffered, house work backed up. Garage and basement became huge messes of parts and junk. I have the worst lawn in the neighborhood. More or less a life of neglect, stopped buying nice cloths and dress like a slob, eat like a slob. It is hard to just now realize this has happened to me.
I'm still at the start of this but so far sex drive is better, and the urge to get back to the gym and hobbies has started to creep into my head even though the energy has not been going up that fast. I lost 8 years so far.
I assume this is the general way this happens to most everyone? I wanted to chalk it up to lifestyle choices, but I have learned that one led to the other and although I tried several times to turn it around I could not.

I think having low T robbed me mentally. I was put on ativan for depression three years ago. I never took it regularly. Sometimes a few weeks here, there when depression would hit. If the freaking doctor would have checked my T they could've saved me a lot of trouble. Thats all it was. I don't even think about that garbage anymore.
I wonder how many men with low T are being treated with antidepressants?

ive had low t my whole life, but this past 6 months i have been slowly working out less, being super lazy, and not caring about anything. I am a passive guy, anxious, and have memory problems.

Ah yes the depression treatments, did a few years of that too. What makes me angry is that the low t was in the test results the whole time each blood work. It was in range, just I wasn't 80 years old.

I have suffered with the depression also for quite a while. I also just had no zest for life and was hard to find any kind of happiness in anything I was doing, even stuff I knew was fun. I would go camping with my family and when they were out swimming or riding atvs I would just lay on the couch or take a nap.
I told my doctor that I thought I had low T and he said that he doubted it because I was balding, had a hairy chest and my testicles were not small. He put me on anti depressants and asked if I wanted viagra. I told him I didn't have erection problems, I just wasn't that interested in sex.
Shit got pretty bad, gained weight and felt like I was just living life to hopefully die. My test has been shipped to me today and even the thought of it changing my life has already perked me up some.
I feel like I can relate to a lot of people here. My reason for TRT is for quality of life, the lifting weights and building muscle is a distant second.

Making good gains and losing weight is a huge perk. The best thing though is how mentally healthy I feel. I look forward to waking up.

Im sorry to hear that testytim. I went a little crazy when I quit Ativan. I quit cold turky and had real bad acute headaches. Had suicidal thoughts for a couple weeks. Then "poof" I came out of it.
Luckily I haven't had any anxiety since I've been dialed in. Six years is a long time. My doctor prescribed me seroquel, ativan, klonopin and abilify. I couldn't believe it. I still have about a years worth of meds. I never took anything but the ativan "thank God".haha

I guess for me I don't have horror story of some of you, my levels seemed to plummet in 2010, actually felt so weak one day that I went to emergency room, a few months later I went to the doc and put on androgel felt better but sex drive lacked, off and on testim and axiron for about a year, until I finally got put on injections, everything is back to feeling like a 28 year old or better, I am 47. Biggest challenges now, keeping blood pressure, red blood cells and estradiol under control, small price to pay for feeling great @ 47. So overall I probably only suffered a few months with severe low t.

I began to see the symptoms 5-6 years ago, the symptoms slowly got worse over the years. I finally couldn't take the depression, no energy, weight gain/couldn't lose an ounce, almost zero libido with a beautiful wife & zero drive for life anymore. My Low Test levels are most likely due to being Hypothyroid for 20+ years. I'm sure going out & drinking too much beer during my single 20's, being perscribed a couple different antidepressants didn't help either, they certainly didn't make me feel any better. Environment certainly hasn't helped my hormone levels either, all the plastics we've been exposed to for decades, preservative packed foods & my job. I started my current career (Fireman/EMT) when I was 21, shift work = terrible sleep schedule, being exposed to countless toxins & who know's what else.
On the positive side, since being treated by my current Dr. a Urologist that specializes in TRT/Fertility for men my life has turned around. TRT has changed my life in a very positive way THANK GOD.

For me it wasn't slow. I just got slammed, right around my 50th birthday. Real depression, compounded with a cancer scare and life-long moderate insomnia. It was like a switch was thrown. Oddly there were no physical signs. I'd been making great gains at the gym (although towards the end it took Hurculean efforts to get myself there)!

Just a question for all of you - Is anxiety a symptom of low T also? I have had times where I would literally make myself puke before a stressful situation. When I was younger I had all the confidence in the world and thought I could conquer anything (arrogance almost) but the more I aged, the more I felt overwhelmed with what I thought were simple things or things that were completely out of my control.
This may be something outside of low test but it is something that has gotten worse as I have aged so i thought it may be related. I am 41 btw.

For me anxiety was a symptom. I never had any issues with anxiety in my life, starting about 2 years Pre-TRT I began having anxiety here & there. It slowly progressed until after being on TRT for a couple months & it's gone.

alcohol - was never much of a drinker till this year when my depression and the sense of well being got flushed down the crapper..booze was the only thing that helped. but havent had a drink in 3 months cause deep down i know its not a permanent solution and will only mess my life up

Yea that's what I keep hearing too bro. I'm pickin up a 10 month supply of test e and arimidex for 290 buks next week. Right now androgel it's costing me 150 a month lolololol. Going to start at 60mg Mondays and Thursday, so 120mg a week and .5mg arimidex the day after shots. Gonna do bloodwork after and post results.
Ps the androgel pisses me off? By night time my t levels feel really low and I'm depressed. Just put on another pack now and feel better. Can't wait to sop this stuffLast edited by Buddyguy; 08-19-2013 at 09:08 PM.

Yup haha I do notice when I take 10-15g of androgel my boners get some serious Eiffel Tower action. Pretty sure the 5g isn't getting absorbed well enough and my t is low

I had anxiety, panic attacks, depression, crushing fatigue, agoraphobia, low sex drive, loss of confidence, insomnia and weight gain - all over a 7 year period.
I lost my wife, my job, my condo, most of my friends and I came close to jumping off a bridge... but other than that I'm perfect.
