    Testosterone fluctuation

    Hi!

Last week I ordered a "Hormone Panel For Males" + "FSH & LH" from Private Medical Labs. Now I received the results and I have a few questions. Here are the relevant tests:

    - Testosterone, Serum 643 ng/dL (348-1197) - this is about average for a 30-34 years old man (based on some studies)
    - Testosterone, Free 21.54 ng/dL (5.00-21.00) - high
    - % Free testosterone 3.35% (1.50-4.20)

    - LH 5.9 mIU/mL (1.7-8.6)
    - FSH 8.6 mIU/mL (1.5-12.4)

    - Prostate-Specific Ag, Serum 0.6 ng/mL (0.0-4.0)

    - IGF-1 187 ng/mL (71-241)

    - Estradiol, Sensitive 6 pg/mL (3-70)

    - TSH 2.420 uIU/mL (0.450-4.500)
    - Thyroxine (T4) 8.9 ug/dL (4.5-12.0)
    - T3 Uptake 35% (24-39)
    - Free Thyroxine Index 3.1 (1.2-4.9)

    My stats are:
    - Age: 31
    - Height: 5" 10 (178 cm)
    - Weight: 174 lbs (79kg).
    - Body Fat: around 11-12%

I took this test at 8 00 am, fasting for 12 hours. Two weeks before this test I took another test (around 11 30 am) and at that time my total testosterone was 325, which is pretty low. It seems that somehow my total testosterone raised from 325 to 643 in two weeks. Does the total testosterone fluctuate that much? Is it possible that in the first test the testosterone was low just because I had a bad day or something? How accurate are these tests? Should I get another test just to be sure?

The free testosterone seems to be a little high. Maybe because I was fasting and the body did not have enough protein? I know this explanation sounds a little bit naïve.

    I appreciate any response. Thanks!

I am assuming you're not on any HRT, correct? its not abnormal for any hormone to fluctuate from day to day, even by the hour for that matter. yes if you are stressed, malnourished, if you consume alcohol, drugs (OTC) and prescribed drugs can make a big impact. your free T is excellent! your E2 however is very low. do you have joint pain, low libido, or any other low e2 sides?

I'm not on HRT. A few weeks ago I checked my testosterone for the first time. Probably when I took the first test I was tired (it was Friday and usually I get tired at the end of the working week). However, since the last blood test shows that my testosterone is normal I guess I don't have to worry to much. At least it seems that my body is able to produce enough testosterone.

Regarding my E2, I don't have joint pain or low libido. Sometimes I have mood changes and I feel depressed (I'm not sure if these are symptoms for low E2). Any ideas what should I do about this?

everything can indeed fluctuate..from hormones t cholesterol..i actually checked some old labs of mine and my cholesterol was 202, and then a month or two later it was 160 without changing diet or exercise lol.
tsh has jumped from high 3's to low 1's to mid 2's mostly.

makes it tough to figure stuff out..that;s why you need a few tests.

Check your E2 again in 4 weeks. See where your at and if that level is consistent. Other than that, you're sitting pretty.

Thanks for your answers. I will repeat the tests in 4 weeks. One more question, is it a problem if you start a "standard" testosterone cycle for beginners and you have low E2?

testosterone converts to E2, so it won't be a problem doing a cycle with low e2. if your e2 goes up significantly then you can control it with AI's.
