help me understand these test results, test, free test,SHBG etc
These tests cost me £300!!
So if you could help me understand if I have primary or secondary hypogonadism that would be excellent.
Reference range is in brackets. I have decided to go private for treatment as my doc is useless.
Testosterone -7.3 nmo/l (8.4-28.7)
Free Testosterone-9.64 pg/ml (8-27)
SHBG-13 nmo/l (17.3-65.8)
FSH-6.3 u/l (1.5-12.4)
LH-5.8 u/l (1.7-8.6)
Oestradiol-57 pmo/l (28-156)
Prolactin-188 mu/l (102-496)

I'm sure the vets can help you out.
How old are you? Any lifestyle factors that may decrease Testosterone ? Stressful life events, substance dependency?

On the Ng scale your testosterone serum = 210, which by any definition is low. LH/FSH looks nice, so an initial glance would point towards the condition possibly being primary, testicular related. This is all speculation from a forum perspective and you would need to review the subject further with your physician, or a urologist/specialist. When I see members that are full-on primary hypo, usually their gonadotropin levels are quite elevated (LH/FSH > 12u/L), and their serum level is even lower. Again, it's all speculation on a forum, but it might be a case where you have 1 damaged testicle, or a condition that is limiting the productivity and function of both testicles.
Your SHBG is quite low, so in that respect it wouldn't take much total serum to get your free/bio testosterone in optimum range. My SHBG is in the same boat, whereas my condition stems from a high ferritin issue (hemochromatosis carrier) and issues related thereof to the liver. Additionally, there is usually a correlation with hypothyroidism, and in some cases diabetes. You need a complete and comprehensive set of labs. You can refer to the sticky in this forum at the top, Finding a TRT Physician. Also, we need your stats, general assessment of your health, medications that might be a factor, and any relevant information that you think will matter.

This is exactly what I wanted, thank you very much mate!.........I have a damaged left testicle from an accident when I was a kid, never thought that it could be related to my low test, as I developed fine. I don't have diabetes or an under/over active thyroid (I have been tested for both) though both run in the family. I am 32 year old, no medication, rarely drink or smoke (when I do party I do excess of both ,maybe 2 x a year), I train very often though I do get low and slack sometimes when results don't come, diet is hit and miss when I don't see results I slack. I have all the symptoms of low test levels. I am definitely going to see a private doctor ASAP.
cheers!!

Could a clomid, HCG and nolva restart work for me? or is that only for secondary hypogonadism?
im asking because TRT is going to cost me a lot of money and I still may want kids.
cheers

Mate you need to take these to your GP and insist he refer you to an endo as you think you are primary. He can't refuse you the referral. Trust me, private gets expensive, I managed to finally get mine on the NHS after a year but you should push before you even start. Don't take no for an answer and threaten a second opinion if they are being obstructive.

I was paying £30 per month for gel or I think it's £90 for nebido (one shot every 8-12 weeks). Add to that my £100 I itial consultation and then £60 for each subsequent 3 monthly appointment. Plus my fuel and time getting to my private doc.
Oh, and you'll need to source and pay for HCG too. Not expensive but not exactly OTC.NO SOURCES GIVEN

Nebido is hundreds of pounds on a private prescription but £7.40 on NHS.
I have to agree with bib your better going to your doc and demanding to see an endo as soon as your doctor gets the results and recommendation from the endo your home and dry. If your struggling demand and ask about the complaints procedure that normally does it

You have to tell the doctor how this is effecting your life, tell them the systems your having and make some up tell them you have function properly and show them your private BW results. Demand something to happen, demand to see someone else if they wont solve your complaint, ask about the complaints procedure and just tell them your desperate...

Ok after thinking and talking with the girlfriend all wknd and after taking all your valuable posts I am heading to the docs one last time!!.....im going to take all previous blood test results and explain all my symptoms and that I am depressed because of them and demand they send me to an endo................I will explain through my own research I have primary hypogonadism.
I would appreciate any literature from the uk endo society or any other hard science backing up the fact of what I have! so I can not get bullied by babble!
cheers

Update!
had my appointment with an endocrinologist today (that i have waited 2 month for) and he was terrible, he brushed off my symptoms, said my test levels are acceptable and that evidence of giving men with borderline low test levels, extraneous testosterone can do more harm than good, his words were......you would have more chance of having a heart attack!...........he said that if i had a problem i would not need to shave as much! what! come on.............he seemed very blase y about my whole situation........saying its just what getting old does to us.......he has got me in for blood test tomorrow morning but if they are the same as previous he probably wont be doing anything more.
im very disappointed and realise that this "specialist" doesn't know his ear from his big toe!
i will wait for the results of these blood tests and what he has to say but looks like im going down the private route, costing me a pretty penny!
