hematocrit questions:
ok so im only on 100 mlg test cyp e7d, my total level was 1,050 last blood draw, my hemat was at like 53,
and so ive been told that hematocrit can be controlled by fluid intake as well because if its high it can be caused by dehydration as well...a nurse told a bunch of us on another forum about this...
also what role does chewing tobacco play as far as hematocrit, cholesterol, bp, ?

you need to donate blood ASAP so you won't go over the limit to get rejected. as far as I know donating blood is the only remedy for high hematocrit, RBC and hemoglobin. drinking water won't help you with that level at this point.

You can show a higher level of hemocrit if you are dehydrated at the time of the blood test. I just hit 53 myself and I went in for a double red cell donation with the Red Cross.

Blood donation appointment for me on Dec 20. Even get a free T-shirt.
Just go to Red Cross site and see when one is available in your area.

I went in for a regular donation. They did the check up and said that since my RBC's were high they would like me to do the double red donation. I guess since they take out twice as much RBC's the % of decrease would be double.
You can do regular donations every 56 days and double red every 112 days.

Like the others stated, donate as soon as you can. Not to scare you, but if it gets much higher, you may be rejected, then you'll need to get an rx phlebotomy. Also, with your current t level, you might consider decreasing your dose a bit. This, along with donating, should keep your hct level down. I was at 54.5. I donated and lowered my dose. From what I've read, hct may decrease anywhere from 2-6% when you donate.
Edit: oops. I guess bass already said most of what I did.

I did one for the first time recently. My labs showed 52.4 on 10/18. I had the double red cell donation on 11/13, so it was probably higher than 52.4. I had more labs done on 11/19 and my Hematocrit was down to 46.4.
Normally I can donate every 8 weeks, but with the double red cell - they said 16 weeks.Last edited by Lockout888; 12-13-2013 at 05:04 PM.

Chewing tobacco should not impact hematocrit levels. You need to donate, regardless of hydration level at the time of testing.

I just donated for the first time today at my local hospital (walk in - no appointment and no wait). Didn't feel a thing and only took 5 min to fill a pint. Left feeling normal (not sick or light headed) and even got a free t-shirt.

Is hematocrit listed as HCT on the bloodwork?
Also, I cannot donate blood (for various reasons). What do you do if/when your hematocrit level get too high in this case?

thanks man,
something was odd with my blood test and doc confirmed it as i went in today:
hamatocrit was only at 49.5!!1 AWESOME, BUT....
1 take 100 mlg e7d, so every monday i get pinned, so i waited until the morning of my shot the next week, got my blood drawn, and my total test only came back at 285!!!! wtf? he said it maybe my trough, but it seems odd as ive been doing this for quite some time, id thought it had been leveled out by now, ive never had my levels that low... after pinning 100 mlg each week for a few months now...

Like mentioned, also check your E2 to make sure you are not converting as a high E2 will bind test.
