Decision Time - Need Your Opinion
Wondering if these lab results merit consideration for testosterone replacement therapy. I am 38years old, 5’11 and weight 153 pounds. FB is about 15%. I was prescribed 1000mg of Nebido. Doctor cannot explain why free T is so low. If my total testosterone is 5.33 (ref 280-800) what would a shot of Nebido 1000mg do for me ? Should I expect a huge surge in testosterone levels ? I am so confused. I am not sure if my low T is cyclical or permanent. This is a tough decision to make. Following are the lab results:
(SHBG) 32,60nmol/L (reference: 13,0 - 71,0)
Thyroid-stimulating hormone 1,51mcUI/ml. (reference: 0,27 - 4,20)
thyroid hormones 1,42ng/dl. (Reference: 1,00 - 1,70)
Aspartate transaminase (AST) 27,3U/L (Reference: 0,0 - 40,0)
Creatine 1,04mg/dl. (Reference 0,67 - 1,17)
Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) 135,42ug/dl.(Reference: 80,0 - 560,0)
Triglyceride 45,2mg/dl. (Reference 0,0 - 150,0)
Glucose 81,5mg/dl. (Reference 70 – 100)
Cholesterol Total 142,1mg/dl. (Reference 0 – 200)
Cholesterol (HDL) 34,29mg/dl. Abnormal (Reference 40,0 - 60,0)
Cholesterol (LDL) 98,77mg/dl. (Reference 0,0 - 100,0)
Total Testosterone 5,33ng/mL (Reference 280-800)
Free Testosterone 10.18 ng/ml (Reference 8.8-27.00)
Vitamin D2 - - I tested 3dl (normal range is above 30dl)
Vitamin D3 - - I tested 23dl (normal range is above 30dl)
Total vitamin D results: 23dl.
Prolactin (PRL) - 8.19 ng/ml (Reference 4.0-15.2)
LH - 7mUl/mL (Reference 1.7-8.6 mlU/mL)
FSH - 3.64mUl/ml (Reference 1.5-12.4 mUl/ml)
Estradiol 15.85 pg/mL (Reference 7.63-42.6)

I believe your total testosterone level is 533 not 5.33. There is no way possible that your free test is in range if your total test is 5.
If your total is 533, then the first thing I would do is start supplementing Vitamin D3 at 5000 ius a day.
Your vitamin D level is low. Raising your vitamin D will lower your SHBG which in turn raises your free testosterone.
I would not jump on TRT right away.Last edited by The Deadlifting Dog; 02-14-2014 at 03:00 PM.

Yes, it's actually 533. Is it too low for a 38 year old?

Like the guys above said, work on your D supplementation but be sure to check it as it's fat soluble and you don't want to go above range. Stinging Nettle and avenacosides can help with shbg as well. Speaking of shbg, yours is not bad at all, just lowering it a bit will help as stated above. Also work on lifestyle, better sleep, nutrition, etc. It all plays into things.

Thank you, guys. You are magnificent!
I think I came to the right place.
I will save TRT for when the time is right then.
Kelkel - You are freaking huge and ripped. One of the reasons why I wanted to hear my T levels were low was to have a reason to take. I am tired to being too skinny. I want to get big but my I understand managing this stuff is a huge challenge.
I wonder why I can't upload my profile picture?

Jump why don't you visit the nutrition forum and talk to the vets there. You can post up your daily food intake and they'll break it down for you. Basically free nutritionists! Remember, nothing works without proper nutrition and training, which is where most guys fail. If AAS was all it took we'd all be pro BB'ers.
