Hemoglobin 17.1. .........am I in bad shape?

I'm at the blood center now donating blood and using their iPad. Since my hemoglobin is 17.1 they said it was high and recommended donating double reds. I is this true and if so is donating double reds better for me to do?

You are on the high end but not over. I was 18.3 on mine in a range of 12.6-17.7. They want people to donate double red blood cells bc they can use that for so many more people in the world. It's called the Apheresis donation. They take double what a normal donation is, and bc they do so they want people on the higher spectrum. Google it and read up on it, its very interesting. I just donated through this machine 4 weeks ago and it made me feel great.

Do the double red blood cell donation brother. Its a smaller needle and you don't have to do it as often. It will knock that level down more too.

It's the same needle and it doesn't take much longer.
