Three Weeks on Cypionate and Injected Glute is Brutally Sore
I have had low test for a long time and am on armour thyroid due to low thyroid but even with that, my test is still really low. I got my dr to agree with testosterone and the gels freaked me out. I was a mess about whether my wife or 4.5 yr old son was anywhere near my shoulders. To top it off my wife is pregnant now and due in October. I requested injections and they agreed as well. They prescribed .5ml of 200 testosterone cypionate weekly.
I am using a 1 inch 25 gauge needle and they have requested I inject in my upper hip. I suggested stomach and they just said it has to go in the hip. I didnt argue but had read here and another resource that stomach is common. They did the first injection on my right side and two days later it was sore as HELL!!!! It felt like I got shot with a baseball. Just really sore and I could barely walk. Sitting was miserable, and touching it was painful too. I wrote it off and week 2 my wife injected on my left side. 2-3 days later... a good bit sore, but not nearly as bad. Not even close. Week 3 my wife injected on my right side... 3 days later BRUTALLY sore. Just like the first time. It is hard and swollen and so so so sensitive. If you look at my hip / butt cheek area it feels hard and looks swollen. Yesterday was miserable but today was not so bad.
What would cause this??? Are we injecting incorrectly? Any recommendations? I called my dr and the nurse called back and said try to rub the area for a little while - which we did on the last 2 injections.

My first few injections were brutal as well. I couldnt even walk!!! Now I rarely feel anything at all. If I try out a new injection site, bammmm. It's that painful process a over agin. Virgin muscles, they hurt !
Edit: it shouldn't be swollen or red

That is how I feel. Its awful!!
I don't know if swollen is technically right but the muscle that was injected into is slightly harder when touched and is visibly larger. My wife joked that the test was in my glute and it grew out of control lol. It is larger but not crazy. I had to point it out to her.

Also it is not the injection site that is enlarged. It is what appears to be the entire muscle.

you could always get some 27 gauge 1/2" pins and start doing you injections subcutaneously...

Dang bro, hate to hear about your experience. I would say try using 25 gauge, the only down side I found was it takes forever to push the cyp into the glute. I went up to 23 gauge, really don't feel it and a lot quicker to inject. I also agree with the nurse, after my injection I use my cotton ball with alcohol and rub the area in a circle motion "HARD". Also, sounds like your wife is getting revenge on you!!! LOL

Its a little hard to tell from your original post, are you injecting IM or sub Q? It sounds like your trying to do IM in the glutes, but you mentioned stomach which would be sub Q. Either is fine, but you need to decide and specifically research locations and technique. I believe there is more info readily available online for IM techniques, so that may be easier. Don't rely solely on your doctor for advice on this. Search site injection information online and read up. Once you get the technique right, I think you'll find most of the pain will go away.

There is a good sticky on how to inject, both IM and subq on this site. You should be switching injection sites every time. I'm not sure when you say the right hip. That is not the glutes. I use 1.5" 23 gauge when injecting the glutes and have never had a problem. You can't use the same needle though if you want to try the abdominal area. Watch the vids.

Sorry for the confusion. I am injecting IM in my hip area - above my butt cheek. It is not the glute. I have thought about subq but have not done so as I have the longer needles.

You're probably pinning too high and hitting a nerve or something. It should be upper outer part of the glute.

I just took my third injection 6 days ago. All injections done are 1ml with 23g 1.5" needle. First injection sore 8 hrs after and stayed that way for 3 days and it was gone. 2nd injection on left side same thing except it hurt even more, but my hand was not steady for left side as I do them myself in the glutes. 3rd injection 14 days later back on the right side still hurt and pain lasted 4 days. I'm in the same boat just not sure about PIP ( Post injection Pain ). I will try sub Q in the morning as it time for the 4th injection I will split it into 2 injections .5ml and then another .5ml. I almost don't feel bad about the pain because I feel so much better than I did 21 days ago. Good Luck with what ever you choose. I will say there is a tremendous amount of good info on this sight for just about anything fitness and overall health related. keeping looking and asking you will get the answers you need. Very good members on this forum.

Op SQ injections are proven effective and convenient for many guys who have issues with IM injections.

Just split your dosage and inject 50mgs every 3-4 days. Helps control your estrogen level too. Win-Win.

It could be something as simple as you don't tolerate injections in that particular area of the body very well. That doesn't mean other areas won't be well tolerated with IM injections. For example, I cannot inject anything into my thighs, no amount of any testosterone or I get exactly what happened to you. But I can inject just about everywhere else problem free.
Or it could be that you have an allergic reaction to the oil base or ester - that's not what I'd call common but it's not as uncommon as some might think. Again, just a personal example, grape seed oil bothers me but sesame seed and cottonseed do not.
Last one - subq shots might be the ticket for you and then again they may not be. Not everyone can tolerate subq shots - you can have painful swollen injections from subq just as you can from IM. It just depends on the guy.
Anyway, just food for thought.

Don’t fret too much, it will likely clear up. Sometimes it's just the luck of the draw & can happen sometimes even with perfect technique. I'm on over 4 years, just did a deltoid shot this past Monday and it's swollen & sore, but now I'm running a 100 degree temp. My Doc is having me pick-up some antibiotics in case it doesn’t clear up. Still did shoulders this AM, so not too worried. Wifey said I'm retarded though...

Hey thanks for the info and insight. I did the sub Q shot earlier today it went awesome!! Not sure how it will be in the morning but I didn't have a lump or burning under the skin or anything. Its been about 4 hrs since I did the injections and I wouldn't even know I took a shot today. So hopefully this is the ticket for myself can't speak for the op in this post but wish them luck and to try sub Q if PIP is that bad.
P.S Thanks again!!

All the research I did I didn't know I couldn't inject my self in the stomach with gear except hgh ..I injected Winn and test cyp in my abdomen it was two days ago and there is a small lump on each injection, I read about abscess and I'm wondering should I worry can I take a middle and try to remove it where the lump is or should I just see what happens

If you're having trouble with the app, don't use it.

I do subq: .75ml between the testosterone and hcg (I load them in the same syringe). I spread the injections around between 2-3 slots around my abdomen and love handle. I use a short needle, insulin pin and it works wonders. I did .5ml in one spot awhile back and it hurt like hell. It left a big bruise and burned.
